BoxyCharm Subscription Box Review – November 2017

I recently received my November BoxyCharm! I have been subscribing for a few months now and have generally enjoyed it.

Boxycharm is just $21 a month for 5-6 beauty items, most of them full-sized.

The products I received this month are:

I think these lip mask are kinda strange. I also have just got a Rodial one. I guess I will be testing out lip mask this weekend!

This color is really dark in the tube, but is more like a berry shade– see swatch below. I don’t really wear darker lip colors, but I may wear this during the holidays.

These brushes are gorgeous. I love the look of them and they are so soft. This includes from left to right:

221T: Flat Definer Brush – Use this to define and smudge out your lower lash line.

227T: Blending Brush – Use this for precise blending in the crease.

213T: Shading Brush – Use this to apply eyeshadow

207T: Angled shading eye brush – Use this for blending out any lines or for smoking out the outer corners of your eyes.

This is one of the items I was really looking forward to! It’s supposed to give the face a glow and help makeup last all day. I tried it today, and it did leave a soft glow on my skin. I’m going to use it in the morning before I go to work tomorrow, and then go out with my friends. We’ll see how my makeup looks at the end of the day.

I am so excited for this! I haven’t tried anything by Winky Lux before, and I have heard good things. First of all the packaging is so cute! I love the kitties on the cover. I wish the palette had a mirror, but the size of the pans are good.

The shades are so pretty! (Swatches below) My favorite shade is the first in the middle row called Holographic. It is a gorgeous pinky-lavender. I wore this today. I used Holographic on my lid and the dark gold glitter called Cateye in my crease. As much as I loved it, mid day I had a lot of glitter on my cheeks. I think and hope it was from Cateye, because I love Holographic so much. Next time I will wear Chesire (the red color on the bottom row) in the crease.

On the left is the lip color. All of the shadows swatched well, except for the last two, dark mattes. I’ll be playing with the palette the rest of the week, for sure!

I am impressed with this box! I didn’t care for October’s (see review here), but November was a hit. I will use the shadow, brushes, and setting spray a lot. I will try the lip masks and probably won’t use the lip color.

So far the spoilers for the December box are Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara and Real Her Blush Kit.

I’m not too thrilled yet, I hope there’s something amazing coming. But, we’ll see.

My Beauty Favorites — November 6-12, 2017

It has been a busy week, and I’ve been sick. I am hoping next week is better. It is my daughter Abby’s 18th birthday today! The time has flown, she will be in college next year. Crazy!

These are some of my favorite IT Cosmetics products! The CC+ Cream is an amazing foundation. It looks natural on, but covers really well. The Bye Bye Pores Illumination is a gorgeous finishing powder. Plus the Superhero mascara is one of my very favorite mascaras. It stretches my tiny lashes and makes them long and full! The Brow Power is amazing, because with just a change in pressure, you can alter the color for the perfect brows, And I love the lip treatment. It gives a bit of color and really hydrates the lips. And that beautiful brush applies the products perfectly!

Julep Maven November 2017 Subscription Box Review

My Julep Maven box recently came! This is the November subscription box. The cost is $24.99 a month ($19.99 a month with a 3-month subscription).

I have been a subscriber for over 4 years. And I love it! You don’t have to take a box each month, you can skip if you want to. Which is so nice if I’m short a month or if I’m not feeling any of the items.

I also love that you can customize your box. When I first started subscribing, I could choose from curated boxes, but now, I get to curate my own! This month I chose a couple of skincare items and a polish:

The items I got are the polish in Talia (a cool shale shimmer), the Triple Quench hydration mask and the No Limits luxe hydrating creme.

Talia is a dark shimmery greige nail polish. It’s so pretty for the fall!

The Triple Quench Deep Hydration Sheet Mask System is supposed to be used before bedtime. You apply the ampoule gel, then the mask and let it set for 15 minutes. Afterwards you use the sleeping pack as the final step. I haven’t tried this yet, but I probably will this weekend. I’m excited to use it!

The No Limits creme can be used on face, hands or body. It has a light fragrance, kinda fruity. It’s really nice. And it’s super hydrating without being greasy. I guess it used to be in a jar, but the tube is easier to use and more hygienic.

My Beauty Favorites — Week of October 30 – November 5, 2017

It really feels like fall in Kansas City now, it’s much cooler, which I am loving. I can finally wear my boots!

This week, I’ve been loving a whitening toothpaste, a luxe velvet lipstick and a liquid eyeliner:

Sephora Holiday 2017 — Reach Out and Gift!

Sephora, the beauty mecca we all know and love, has a cool new campaign this holiday season. It’s called Reach Out and Gift and it features their beauty experts, pictured above. Here is more info:

Sephora’s holiday campaigns have always celebrated beauty, so this year is no different. Sephora knows the importance of developing a personal, emotional connection with, and understanding of, the unique one-of-a-kind loved ones of your gift list. With that in mind, Reach Out and Gift was created to celebrate how beauty unifies people of all different interests, and encourages them to build personal connections with one another, whether its people they know or don’t know.

Sephora’s beauty experts help personalize beauty for our clients in stores every day, so it made sense for us to feature them in this campaign. Of the 1,000 consultants that applied to be a part of the campaign, 10 were chosen from all over the U.S. and Canada based on their definition of what unique beauty means to him or her, and their own personal take on beauty. With the help of Inez and Vinoodh, Sephora was able to embrace and brilliantly bring to life its first campaign with its Sephora family—its Cast Members!

Of the ten Cast Members that are included in the campaign, one is actually located right in Kansas City (where I live) at Sephora Town Center Plaza! Her name is Alley Cage and she is on the top row, 4th from the left in the photo.

Alley is a Senior Artist at the Sephora Town Center Plaza store in Kansas City, and has been with Sephora for 6 years. Alley also supports two other stores with training and continued education in artistry, as well as provides content for Sephora’s YouTube Channel.

Alley wanted to work at Sephora because it “felt like coming home.” The first time she ever walked into a Sephora, she felt like she had found people that understood her “hunger for self-expression,” and that they “wanted to make people feel beautiful and celebrated for what made them uniquely beautiful.” Six years later, she feels the same holds true, “it is a place that helps you empower yourself to feel beautiful from the inside out.”

Alley applied for Sephora’s Reach Out and Gift campaign because she received a gift from Sephora that lent itself to a bigger idea – Sephora is a place to inspire beauty. Her mom gifted her her first brush set when she was twelve and it changed her life, it inspired her love for makeup and passion for creating. “Makeup became my armor and outlet when I was growing up and those brushes were the key to creating. Up Your Skincare Game This Fall With Meaningful Beauty, H2O+ and CeraVe

It snowed a little yesterday (Halloween) in Kansas City! I think that’s the first time in the 11 years I’ve been here. A couple of weeks ago, it was in the 80’s. But that’s KC weather for you…unpredictable!

My Beauty Favorites — Week of October 23-29, 2017

It has become so cold in Kansas City! It definitely is fall and almost feels like winter! I am enjoying it, though!

My favorites this week include a cleanser that will get the gunk out of pores, a cool rubber mask and sweet smelling bath products:

Bioré Skincare Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser ($7.99 USD) — This breakthrough cleanser gets pores twice as clean after just one use, in as little as 30 seconds. What I think: This is a great cleanser for cleaning pores. It gets in and helps with blackheads and pore size without irritating skin. This is also great for teenagers who want to get clean and not worry about drying out their skin.

Masqueology Intensive Moisturizing Rubber Mask ($2.50 USD) — This rubber mask moisturizes and improves skin elasticity with hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, green seaweed extract, chamomile, lavender, soy protein, almond protein, wheat protein and several other ingredients guaranteed to soothe skin and make it glow. The product is not tested on animals.

What I think: This is so fun to use! You first apply the cream that’s in pouch on top to the skin, then apply the two peice rubber mask. It’s light blue and looks creepy on! I left it on for 20 minutes, but it gave a range of 15 to 30. It feels cold on my face, so in cooler weather, it may not be as comfortable on. When I removed it, there wasn’t any serum left to rub in and my skin was a bit red. It did leave my skin smooth, and calmed down shortly after.

What I think: I love the fragrance of these products, they are yummy — sweet, but not cloying. The scrub works so well to smooth my skin! And the Soak Opera gives great bubbles in the tub or shower. I do love taking baths, so I enjoyed using it for a bubble bath. Blissful Mistful is a light scent. I think my daughter will love it because it’s sweet and floral. Very fresh and young.
