Festival and Summer Nail Tips and Polishes from Skyy Hadley and Lauren B!

Did you go to Coachella this year?  I’ve never been, but I do love festivals. Although Coachella is over, there will be so many more festivals and summer concerts coming.

I love wearing fun nail looks this time of year. Below are tips from beauty expert, Skyy Hadley and polishes from Lauren B. Beauty that will give you that fun summer and festival vibe!

Skyy Hadley Tips:

  • For a fun festival look, try the Lauren B. polishes with a base coat and top coat to protect your nails from the dreaded chip.
  • Stock up and buy a mini travel moisturizer from the drugstore because there is no way you will be bringing a bottle of cuticle oil and you don’t want your hands or cuticles to dry up.
  • Stash a small travel kit with a nail file and clippers in your suitcase in case you break a nail and need to fix it.

The shades above from left to right are:

Lauren B. Beauty in “33 Carats” ($19 USD) — Packed with ultra-fine flecks of silver glitter (in a range of sizes), it’s diamond-powder sparkly and festive without being gaudy.

Lauren B. Beauty in “One Night in WeHo” ($19 USD) — When we want to look VIP party ready (yes, please), one swipe of this glinty polish leaves us feeling transformed. Apply it to nude or painted nails: The mix of sheer, kaleidoscopic glitter – with particles of purple, blue, green, silver, gold, turquoise and hot pink – creates a dazzling metallic effect.

Lauren B. Beauty in “Hollywood Blvd.” ($18 USD) — A dusting of metallic glitter delivers just the right amount of night-owl sparkle – superchic layered over dark polish or simply on its on.

Julep Maven April 2018 Subscription Box Review

IMG_0781

I have been so busy with reviews that I haven’t had a chance to post my April Julep Maven box.

I have been a subscriber for 5 years now.  And I love it!  You don’t have to take a box each month, you can skip if you want to.  Which is so nice if I’m short a month or if I’m not feeling any of the items.  The cost is $24.99 a month ($19.99 a month with a 3-month subscription).

I also love that you can customize your box.  When I first started subscribing, I could choose from curated boxes, but now, I get to curate my own!  This month I chose the Way Butter Hydrating Lip Sheer in Macaroon and two shimmery nail polishes.  I also recieved a third polish (the reddish one) as a freebie!

This month had glittery polishes and the amazing lip butters!

img_0782.jpg

I chose the colors Maribel (Caribbean Surf Iridescent Chrome) and Danielle (Cerulean Wave Duochrome).  The free polish wasn’t from this month’s collection, but it does fit in.  The shade is Lula (Pomegranate Multidimensional Glitter).  These are all gorgeous for spring and summer.  I wore Danielle last week and it is bright!

img_0785.jpg

This is my favorite product this month.  They had these last summer or the one before and they had a different name.  So I have a couple in darker shades.  I really love this nude shade Macaroon.  It’s gorgeous for anytime of the year.  Plus it feels amazing on.  I love the gunmetal packaging, too.  The lid is magnetic so it clicks shut, which is so much fun.  This costs $20, or $16 if you’re a Maven.  Being a Maven gives you a discount in everything you purchase.  It’s a better deal to subscribe, though, and you can choose one or two of these in a monthly box.  You can subscribe here.

I have just received Julep Maven box recently came!  This is the March subscription box. The cost is $24.99 a month ($19.99 a month with a 3-month subscription).

I have been a subscriber for 5 years now.  And I love it!  You don’t have to take a box each month, you can skip if you want to.  Which is so nice if I’m short a month or if I’m not feeling any of the items.  I skipped December, because I was a bit short of cash and I didn’t really need any of the products.

I also love that you can customize your box.  When I first started subscribing, I could choose from curated boxes, but now, I get to curate my own!  This month I chose the Dream Big Nightly Renewal Pressed Serum with BHA and two metallic matte nail polishes.  I received some cute shamrock nail decals as an extra!

Here’s a closer look!

I was excited to try the new Dream Big Nightly Renewal Pressed Serum with BHA ($36 or $28.80 for Mavens) — This claims — An innovative stick streamlines your nighttime serum and moisturizer steps into one. It deeply hydrates as it gently exfoliates to unveil smoother, more refined skin overnight.

I really wasn’t paying attention to this, because I didn’t realize that it was a stick until I got it home! I haven’t tried it on my face yet, because I’m trying a new No7 brightening serum (review to come).  But I have swatched it on my hand.  It’s very hydrating.  I hope it’s not to heavy for my face, but we will see!

These cute little shamrocks will be perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day manicure.  I have a new green polish that will look amazing with them!

These shades are from top Polly Ann –Cool Aubergine Matte Shimmer and bottom — Sonia — Blue Steel Matte Metallic.

I took this when the day was almost done, so the lighting isn’t perfect.  The top is more purple and the bottom, teal.  These look a bit like fall shades to me. I picked them out.  I guess I’m not ready for spring yet!

Review — Sally Hansen Big Polish Guards Cuticle Protectors

IMG_0345

I received a sample of Sally Hansen Big Polish Guards Cuticle Protectors ($5.99 USD) for my honest review.  What are they you ask?
“They’re the newest innovation in at-home manicures. Just wrap your cuticles, paint on color and then peel away any mishaps. This means each hand (yes, both) will get the same, flawless results. It’s really that simple. Big Polish Guards Cuticle Protectors give you the freedom to paint your nails at home, mess-free.”
I was super excited to try them! Here’s a close up look:
IMG_0346
There are 24 in the box, 4 strips of 6.  I guess this is for if you mess up applying one.  I decided to paint my nails and use the guards on my right hand and not use them on my left to compare.  Here is my hand after I applied the guards:
IMG_0358 The guards are fairly thick, so I questioned whether I would get a clean line of polish.  I did try to press them down on my cuticles as the instructions said, and this is as close at they would get.
IMG_0360
Now, I don’t usually paint my nails like I’m 2, but I thought it would be a great indicator if this worked!  LOL!
These came of very easy!  Here  is the result:
IMG_0362And here are my nails!  I think it worked pretty well.  I had to clean up my index finger, but besides that, it is pretty even and neat.  Here is my other hand:
IMG_0366 Yes, it is a bit messy!  But the messy cuticles did wear off by morning.  The guards took a few minutes to apply, but they did work pretty well.  Hmmm…I don’t know if I would by them again, maybe if I had a special occasion to go to.
Have you tried these guards or anything like them?  Leave a comment and let me know!

Julep Maven January 2018 Subscription Box Review

My Julep Maven box recently came!  This is the January subscription box. The cost is $24.99 a month ($19.99 a month with a 3-month subscription).

I have been a subscriber for almost 5 years.

This month I chose a couple of polishes and a new face oil.

The polishes are Geri, blushing beige cream and Shiloh, stormy aqua shimmer. I half I had to get Geri because it’s my sister’s name, but she spells it Jeri. It’s a really pretty soft neutral. But I think my favorite is Shiloh because it’s really shimmery and gorgeous for winter.

I also chose the Boost your Radiance Rosehip Seed Facial Oil. I’ve only tried it once so far and it was very hydrating. It’s a really good night treatment for me. I will be trying it more to see if it helps with the appearances of fine lines, which is one of its claims.

My Beauty Favorites — November 6-12, 2017

It has been a busy week, and I’ve been sick.  I am hoping next week is better.  It is my daughter Abby’s 18th birthday today!  The time has flown, she will be in college next year.  Crazy!

This weeks I have two faves I’ve been loving.  And amazing eye treatment and sparkly gem-inspired nail polishes:

Talika Eye Dream

Talika Eye Dream ($57, on sale at Amazon $49.52) — TALIKA Eye Dream transforms bedtime into an 8-hour long spa treatment for the eyes from the moment you drift off to the minute you awake. Regenerative ingredients and biopeptides will help improve the texture of your skin so it will feel and look softer and smoother in the morning.

What I think: This is a real treat for the eyes!  Apply at night around the eye, then rinse with water in the morning.  It smooths the eye area and makes you look younger and wide awake!  It’s perfect for late nights or when you’re not feeling as well.

Purchase at Amazon and other great skincare store.

Sally Hansen Color Therapy  Enchanting Gems Collection ($8.99 each) — Stone cold stunning! Inspired by multi-faceted luxurious gemstones, the Sally Hansen Color Therapy range introduces 6 new opulent shades designed to elevate every autumn look. These contain a patented micro-delivery system that delivers an argan oil enhancing formula, resulting in intensive nourishment and instant moisture for healthier-looking nails. The Color Therapy nail polish needs no base coat so the oil complex can directly contact the bare nail. 9 out of 10 women experienced a noticeable improvement in their natural nails after wearing the Color Therapy nail polish. The polish glides on for a radiant, shiny finish with up to 10 days of fade-proof, chip-resistant wear. Colors are:

Opulent Pearl — Opt for over-the-top iridescence in a glossy white pearl hue    Rose Diamond –This dusty pink shimmery shade adds a touch of sparkle to any ensemble                                                                                                                              Pink Sapphire — Pamper your nails with this luxe electric pink                       Brilliant Lapis — This royal blue shimmer is a total gem                                       Orchid Amethyst — You’ll be mesmerized by this dazzling orchid tone            Smoky Emerald Embrace — evening magic with this blackened midnight teal green

What I think: I love this nail polish formula!  It glides on so smoothly and looks so nice one.  And it lasts for days and days!  These shades are shimmery (my favorite) and so pretty on.  Really nice for fall and the holiday season!
