My Beauty Favorites — Week of January 23-29, 2017

The weather has been mild this week in Kansas City, but unfortunately I’ve had the flu and haven’t been able to enjoy it.

Even though I have been ill, I have been testing some great new products sent to me for my honest review! Read on for my weekly favorites:

What I think: I’m not a fan of the super drying liquid matte lipsticks that are popular right now, but I have been switching from gloss to a more matte look lately. What I think: I have very dark brown hair, so I tried the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter, and it did lighten it a bit. I applied it on wet hair and let it set for 5 minutes. It was really easy to use. It left my hair a bit dry, so I recommend conditioning with sulfate-free products after use. This is a fun product!

What I think: This is such a cool product! I spray on after I cleanse my face at night. It does smell slightly of minerals, and feels cool going on. I let it sink in for a bit, then apply my nightly treatments. I feel that it cools my skin and cleans out the pores. I’ve noticed that my skin looks clearer since starting use.

What I think: I received this in Universal Taupe which is too light for me (my brows are almost black), but I tried it and it did cover well and last a very long time. I do love how blendable it is and it looks very natural on.

What I think: I received these items to help keep my hair looking fab through the holdiays and winter. The brush is so cool. My whole family has tried it and it makes all types of hair instantly smooth and shiny. We all love it (and it would make a great gift)

After washing my hair today, I applied the serum to my wet hair. When it dried, it was so soft and shiny! I then applied a little Secret Weapon to my dry hair to make it look even better (keep in mind that my hair is usually a dry, frizzy mess)!

Get Your Beauty Routine Ready For Summer, Part 2

Part two of my summer prep spectacular brings body care and hair care! Time to moisturize that parched skin and hair!

Our air conditioner wasn’t working for the last couple of days and as I work from home, I was stuck in front of a computer in 85 degrees. Well, my skin dried out, and this made it much softer. After my shower, I smoothed this lotion on and my skin went “aaaah”! Love! The only downside is that is smells kind of like hay. Not very fragrant, but good for my skin!

I like the Rainforest at Dusk the best. I wouldn’t call it flowery, more herbal and spicy. I don’t care for the Rainforest at Dusk because it smells a bit like soil, very foresty, though.

L’OCCITANE Mer & Mistral Body Milk ($20 USD, 6 fl. oz.) — This energizing gel moisturizes and refreshes the skin, leaving behind the aquatic and aromatic scent of the Mer & Mistral fragrance. Enriched with shea butter, skin is left smooth, supple and perfumed with the aromatic chord of cypress, pine and rosemary.

What I think: This is a very light gel lotion and smells fantastic, really fresh and clean. It is a unisex scent, either for women or men, and I can see why. And it’s light enough for that guy who doesn’t like greasy lotions.

Is Your Hair Ready For Spring?

I have been wearing my hair in buns and ponytails so much lately. It’s so easy to do in the dark, cold, winter days.

But we had a beautiful day today! It was 72 degrees in Kansas City. I didn’t even wear a coat. The nice weather makes me want to change-up my whole look, including my dry, dull hair. I need some help, and the following products are awesome for making my winter hair look fresh!

What I think — I have tried the system once. I followed the directions, which is basically wash, condition, use the treatment, blow dry then straighten hair. My hair usually gets so frizzy when I blow dry (I usually air dry). This helped a little bit, but I want to try it again to see if I really notice a difference. The system is affordable, which is a plus.

Myself, friends and readers have recently taken part in a John Frieda Hare Care At Home Hair Colour Challenge by using the new John Frieda Precision Foam Color ($12.99 USD).

HOW TO USE:Squeeze the center of the bottle to dispense foam into a gloved hand and apply directly to hair. Simply massage foam into hair with fingertips to thoroughly cover each strand from root to tip. The foam easily coats even the most hard-to-reach areas, including the back of the head. Let stand for 20 minutes (30 minute for grey coverage) and rinse with lukewarm water until water runs clear. Apply conditioner and leave in for 2-5 minutes before rinsing.

WHAT’S THE VERDICT?: I like this color because it is easy to use and doesn’t have a strong chemical smell. I tried Dark Red Brown and it covered my grays well, but I didn’t get much red in my dark brown, but it was shiny and pretty. I don’t have a photo up because I didn’t get a chance to take my after photo, my grays popped up after a few weeks (I procrastinated).

My daughter Hannah had reddish blonde hair before coloring and wanted to go more blonde so she chose Dark Golden Blonde. It turned out almost exactly like her hair was before — not much change. Marissa went from a golden blonde to Dark Natural Brown and it looked fab, quite a difference!

Bridget tried Medium Chocolate Brown and it covered her gray well. She loved how soft her hair was afterwards and how great it made her feel to get her color back.

We all had different experiences with this color, but I think it is a quality home hair color and worth a try!
