Bobbi Brown Makeup Facelift Collection

I work from home everyday except for Thursday, when I go into the office. Yesterday I walked in and the first person who looked at me said, “Wow! You look young”.  Seriously.

So I had to remember what I had on, and then it hit me…I was using three products from Bobbi Brown’s Facelift Collection; the Brow Pencil, the Brightening Lip Gloss and the wonderful Tinted Eye Brightener.

Bobbi’s Tinted Eye Brightener ($38.00 USD), now in a NEW portable pen. This use to be available  in a little pot, but now it is in a, easy to use pen. This takes a few twists at first to get it flowing, but then it saturates the brush and you can go to town! I find that it hides my under eye circles pretty well and brightens the eye area. I do think that the price may be a little much, but it is a nice product to have in your purse.  Available in eight shades.

Brow Pencil ($20.00 USD) — Brows do frame the face, so it is important to keep them groomed. I have very dark brow and haven’t had to use brow products, until recently. My brows are now thinning and look a little faded. This pencil is easy to use to color in and define brows and even comes with it’s own sharpener. I use the darkest color, Mahogany — but it is also available in Wheat, Blonde, Grey and Ash.  What I have noticed about this is that it is very creamy, but you only have a few seconds to play with it before it dries and WILL NOT BUDGE! This is great, because you do not want your brows migrating south, but just be aware if you need to smudge or remove.

Brightening Lip Gloss ($20.00 USD) This sheer, reflective formula wakes up your face and helps create fuller lips. I like to wear it alone, but you can wear it on top of lipstick. I liked the color of this gloss — a light pink called Popsicle that looked more wearable on than in the tube. I thought it might look a little young on me, but it is very pretty. The only down side to this gloss is that it is a little sticky and the brush fanned out on me and won’t go back into shape. It is available in 6 brightening shades, the two new ones are Popsicle and Nectar, a peachy-pink. It also comes in Peach, Pink, Pink Lilac and White.

Achieve a Polished Look with LORAC Cosmetics

LORAC Cosmetics was created by celebrity makeup artist Carol Shaw to deliver healthy cosmetics that wear flawlessly. Her products are used by celebrity’s on the red carpet as well as normal ladies such as myself!

I have recently tried a few products by LORAC and I have to say that I love the quality and feel of these products. My favorites (so far) are:

Double Feature Paraben-Free Concealer Highlighter ($24.00) – This clever face perfector includes a concealer, a highlighter and hygienic blender ball all in one slim stick. The LORAC website suggests, “Cover under eye circles and hide blemishes with the Full-Coverage, Long-Wearing Concealer Stick and then finish the look with the Blender Ball for a hygienic, natural picture-perfect finish. Use the Moisture-Rich liquid Highlighter to lighten and brighten under eyes, highlight cheekbones and help diffuse fine lines.”

I agree. The concealer stick is very creamy and I like to dot it under eyes, around my nose, over blemishes and then take the roller ball and seamlessly blend the lines. I then use the subtle but shimmery highlighter in the inner corner of my eyes, under my browbone and on the top of my cheek bones to make me seem awake and youthful. I think this product is well worth the price for the variety that you get.

I also love the Natural Performance Foundation ($35.00) – This gentle foundation is oil-free, paraben-free and fragrance-free formula and it contains three soothing natural ingredients for sensitive skin – Xyleine, Premier Olive Leaf Extract, and Vitamin A. The website explains that “Xyleine, the active ingredient that contains Papaya Fruit Extract, Lemon Fruit Extract and Olive Leaf Extract, is loaded with vitamins, flavonoids, soothing polyphenols and natural cell regenerating properties. The Premiere Olive Leaf Extract is rich in Oleanolic Acid, an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant that helps your skin stay healthy and protect itself. It’s also infused with Vitamin A, another antioxidant that helps rejuvenate and improve your skin.”

I love the top of the bottle. You twist the cap and the pump pops up. This keeps the bottle clean, plus it is really cool. The foundation is light and gives skin a lovely glow. I am a liquid foundation girl, haven’t got used to the powder foundations, and this has a light and beautiful formula.

Breakthrough Performance Lipstick SPF 15 ($22.00) is a crazy-good lipstick. Not many lipsticks have an SPF, so it gets my endorsement right there — SPF is everyone’s friend! It is also paraben-free, long wearing, and VERY moisturizing and creamy. it is infused with nourishing and moisturizing antioxidants such as Vitamin E and Olive Fruit Oil. My only suggestion is that LORAC introduces more colors in the collection. Right now, there are seven beautiful colors. I like Premiere, a soft neutral pink for everyday and Vanity, a medium red-pink for going out. Beautiful!

Three Custom Color Specialists’ Crème Concealer/Foundation

Three Custom Color Creme Concealer
Crème Concealer/Foundation

A great concealer is hard to find! I have recently tried Three Custom Color Specialists’ Crème Concealer/Foundation (Singles $22.50, Refills $15.00). This is a buildable concealer that  allows you to create tailored coverage, from to sheer to full.

This is touted to have a rich and creamy texture that is appropriate for all skin types and is formulated to provide the most effective coverage for redness and dark circles.  I have been using it under my eyes and on blemishes. I really like how it instantly covers the discoloration and doesn’t settle in fine lines. It is very creamy and easy to blend.

Use this with a brush or fingers or it can be used all over the face as a foundation.  It can also be blended with a face cream to create a tinted moisturizer.  This is available in 10 shades, which is a lot of variety for concealer! A custom blending service for the Creme Concealer/Foundation is also available.

Three Custom Color Specialists’ products are available at select beauty boutiques worldwide, via the hotline at 888.262.7714 and online at www.threecustom.com. Contact them to purchase the products as well as ask about custom blending.

It Cosmetics Fab Concealer — Bye Bye Under Eye

Bye Bye Under Eye Shades and Tube

  • IT Cosmetics are innovators when it comes to makeup that can make you look your best. They have kits to bring out your eyes, plump lips and make teeth look white at the same time, make your legs look smooth and defined as well as many other wonderful products.
  • So when I tried their new concealer, Bye Bye Under Eye, I knew it would be good. But I didn’t realize how good!

It Cosmetics worked with leading plastic surgeons in Brazil to create this full coverage, highly pigmented anti-aging concealer utilizing  innovative technology and ingredients. Bye Bye Under Eye offers a waterproof, yet moisturizing formula that will stay put no matter what.  The formula contains high concentrations of Vitamins K, A, C, E and Hydrolyzed Collagen – which is clinically proven to reduce under eye puffiness and discoloration while strengthening the delicate skin of the under eye area. Bye Bye Under Eye

Since it is so highly pigmented, I use just a little drop for each eye. I then pat n with my ring finger to blend it in. I also use it on the inner corners of my eyes for an instant brightness. This product does cover under eye circles very well. As it is thick, it really needs blending. Once it is blended well, the under eye area is very smooth and light.

Bye Bye Under Eye is available in four shades: Light, Neutral Medium, Tan and Deep. The light is very light, so I use Neutral Medium.

Darac Beauty

As a forty-something woman, I am always looking for products that will make my skin appear flawless. Darac, a celebrity makeup artist, has introduced a makeup line that focuses on flawless skin. His Core Solutions are made to help women with solutions to common, but troubling makeup problems. Darac says on his website, “Everyone has similar core concerns. When you say, my foundation doesn’t match my skin; my powder makes me look like my great-great grandmother; I used to have long delicious lashes and now I have four sausages, or anything else you’ve struggled with, Core Solutions offers you specific solutions with instant results.”

I have recently tried some of Darac’s fantastic products. My favorites are:

Feature Focus ($39.50) is a compact of 3 different cream bases made to cover, contour and highlight the face. This product comes with the Looking Glass Cheat Sheet, which is a cling sheet that you can put on your mirror. It contains a diagram of where to place the products.  Forgive is a great color for concealing, Forget is for highlighting and Frame is a darker shade to sculpt. I love to use Forgive under my eyes and on blemishes, Forget goes on my cheek bones and under my browbone and Frame is great for my chin area!

The TourQuam ($40.00)  TourQuam Luxe ($75.00) brushes are some of the coolest I’ve tried. They are super-soft and full and contain magnets in the handle which I think draw the product into the brushes so you can swirl on an even coat of the product and use less of it. I use the TourQuam for bronzer and blush and the TourQuam Luxe for my powder.

Sifted Blur ($32.00) is more than a powder. Used with the TourQuam or TourQuam plus, I sweep it all over my face and it instantly makes my face look even and glow. The website states that, “Sifted Blur can be used as a under foundation to facilitate application of makeup and not allow it to rob water from your skin; it can be used over foundation to set and perfect makeup; or used without any makeup at all, any time of the day.” I have used it over my makeup and on its own, but I am going to definitely try it under my makeup in these hot, humid summer days when my face gets a little oily!

Expedition Mascara ($19.50) really lengthens my lashes while adding volume. Summer Allergies have forced me to wear my glasses instead of my contacts, and with Expedition, my lashes keep hitting my glasses! I have to make sure they are totally dry before I put my glasses on. This mascara also is vitamin-packed and nourishes lashes with a silk extract. I have noticed that my lashes stay glossy, black and soft all day long! You can also use the tiny detail brush included to get all of your little lashes and your bottom ones as well.

Revlon Age Defying Spa Collection Foundation and Concealer

Revlon Age Defying Spa Concealer
Revlon Age Defying Spa Concealer
One of my New Year’s resolutions is to try out products that are supposed to, well, make me look younger. At forty, now’s the time to truly test-drive the products that are supposed to de-age me. This year I want to delve into the wide world of anti-aging skincare and makeup.
Last week I picked up the Revlon Age Defying Spa Collection Concealer($9.99 USD) and Foundation ($13.99 USD). This week, I have been using these products exclusively as my concealer and foundation.
Revlon’s website claims that these products, “instantly revitalize and brighten for radiant, flawless coverage and protect against fine lines”.  They contain, “Stone Therapy minerals that help energize stressed skin and Vitamin C fusion brighteners.”

That sounds very nice, but how does it wear? Well, I like these products okay, but they did settle a little into the lines around my eyes.
The foundation, though,  has a couple of great pluses to it. First it contains SPF 18 which is important for our aging skin.
Second, the brush applicator is really cool. I twist the base once, squeeze the tube, and the product comes out. I then twist it back to lock it while I am applying it. It takes about 3 squeezes to do my whole face. Ingenious.
The highlighter is in a slim pen shape and also has a brush applicator.  To dispense the concealer, I turn the base until it saturates the brush. I then swipe it on the areas I need it and blend with my finger.
The shades I purchase are the concealer in 001 light and the foundation in 002 fair/light. The concealer color is perfect for my skin, but the foundation is a little dark and a bit orange for me. It would probably be a good shade for the summer, when my skin becomes a little darker (even with sunscreen).
All in all, these are nice products and if you are interested, give them a try!

Sleepless Nights? Benefit’s Concealers Help the Next Morning

Benefit Powderflage
Benefit Powderflage

It’s a fact: I do not get a lot of sleep. I am forty, have 3 daughters, work full time and have a husband who also works full time and is in nursing school. No. sleep. at. all.

But I still like to look good. And so I am drawn to all new concealers that promise I will look like I have had a great night’s sleep and if it makes me look younger, yes!

Benefit always seems to have a new trick up it’s sleeve. Their newest concealer is called Powderflage ($28.00 USD). It is a pink-tinted powder that comes with a mini fantail brush for application.

This product claims to camouflage fine lines, dark circles and spots. I found on it’s own, it didn’t cover my deep, dark circles, but over another concealer it brightened the under eye area and made my skin look smoother.

The brush is cute, but it is very small and a bit hard to handle. I would recommend using an eyeshadow brush, or your finger, for blending.

erase-pasteMy favorite Benefit concealer is one that came out a few months ago, Erase Paste ($26.00 USD).

Erase Paste is a cream concealer that comes in a little jar and has a plastic wand applicator. This can be used for blemishes and dark under eye circles, and comes in Fair, Medium and Deep shades.

The reason I love this product is that it instantly erases my dark circles and leaves a nice highlighted glow under my eyes. It also works well as a shadow base. Erase Paste is also very creamy and blends nicely.

For a polished look, you can use Erase Paste under your eyes and sweep Powderflage over it. This would be nice for an evening out.

L’Oreal Visible Lift

Happy November all! Here in Missouri, it doesn’t quite feel like fall yet (today was in the 70’s), but I can tell it is. How? My skin is already getting dry and dull. So I have begun preparing for flaky skin. I have purchased some apricot scrub, thicker moisturizer and I am looking for some nice smoothing face cosmetics to help me look hydrated and maybe even a little younger!

I have recently tried the L’Oreal Visible Lift foundation and concealer. The foundation now comes in a normal to oily formula as well as their normal to dry formula. This product contains Pro Retinol-A to reduce look of fine lines and wrinkles and hydrate skin. I have not noticed wrinkles reducing, but my skin is hydrated, even with the normal to oily foundation and it gives me a nice glow.

The concealer is touted to reduce under eye puffiness and promote skin radiance. I have noticed that my under eye circles are a bit diminished and my skin does glow.

The foundation is priced at around $15.49 US and the concealer is priced at $11.95 US. I recommend these products for the glowing effect they produce.

Well Hello, Bright Eyes…Almay’s New Line

Almay Bright Eyes Eye Base + Concealer

Almay Bright Eyes Liner/Highlighter Duo
Almay Bright Eyes Liner/Highlighter Duo

With my kids and husband back in school, I am getting less sleep doing more work. So my eyes are looking kind of tired. At forty, I do not want to look tired. That’s why I was drawn to Almay’s new Bright Eyes line.

The claim for this line is that it, “instantly refreshes and enhances your eyes. Now, you can always have the natural radiance that comes with a great night’s sleep.” The main brightening ingredients in the line are white tea and marine extract, whatever that is.
There are three products in the line, the Liner/Highlighter Duo, the Eye Base + Concealer and the Eye Shadow. I purchased the Liner/Highlighter Duo in Dark Chocolate/Shell and the Eye Base + Concealer in Light.

I usually wear black, purple or navy eyeliner and I usually wear eye shadow as liner. I haven’t purchased a dark brown eyeliner in years. It’s nice, though. The eye liner is a little hard and tugs at my eye lids a bit, but I like the color, it’s a rich dark brown.

The highlighter on the other end is very soft.  On my first use, I didn’t see any color when I used it. Then I looked at myself in natural light and noticed a soft, light pink shimmer. Very nice. I use the highlighter below my browbones, in the inner corners of my eyes and on my cheekbones. Can we say youthful glow?!

The concealer is wonderful. You sqeeze the tube and the product comes out through the brush on top. I dab it on then rub it in gently with my finger. It instantly brightens up my eyes. I also use it as an eye shadow base and I have to say, my shadow seems to stay on longer.

If you are looking for a youthful eye look at a reasonable price (both were $8.99 at Walgreens), check this line out.

New Beauty Products at Target Part 3 – JK Jemma Kidd

JK Jemma Kidd Front Cover Touch-Up Concealer

Possibly the most glamorous of the three new make-up lines at Target is JK Jemma Kidd. The pink and black packaging lends an old Hollywood feel to the products. The colors are very glamorous as well. There are lots of light, shimmering lip glosses as well as deeper lipsticks — which is the trend this fall. Also, there are many different eye shadows to choose from, including deep brights and soft neutrals. Kidd refers to the line as “catwalk-chic” and that’s a good description, I think.

The item that I really enjoyed is the JK Front Cover Touch-Up Concealer. I’m always on the look out for a great concealer with a little glow to it to camouflage my dark under eye circles. This one features Vitamin E to smooth and moisturize the under eye area. I also like the brush applicator that with a couple of clicks, enough product is distributed to be brushed on as needed.

JK Jemma Kidd Lip ID Color Adapt Lip Gloss

Another item that interests me is one that it not yet for sale. This is the JK Lip ID Color-Adapt Lip Gloss. Like the Smashbox O-Gloss, this product claims that it “reacts to natural lip PH for a completely individual, perfect color match” and that it is “non-tacky and hydrating; glides on transparent and colors lips naturally”.

As soon as this product becomes available (in 2-6 weeks according to the Target website) I will try it out. I like the Smashbox product okay, but the color is a little too neon pink for me. I am hoping that this color is more natural.

I hope you all enjoyed my breif forray into Target’s new make-up lines. I will be reviewing products more in depth in the future, so keep reading!!!
