Get And Keep A Gorgeous Summer Glow!

I love self-tanning in the summer. It is so hot here that I rarely go outside, unless it’s to a water park, where I proceed to get burned! Self-tanning is really the only way I can get some color on my pale skin!

I try many kinds and they can be tricky to use. Gradual tanners are nice, because it is easier to get an even coverage. Darker, one time tanners are great to give color in a day, but if you are not careful, they streak or (I) have patches without color or with too much!

One of my favorite self-tanning tips is to exfoliate before tanning. Plus, I apply lotion to my feet and knees kind of as a buffer between the color. That way they do not end up too dark.

Below are some of the ones I have been testing this summer (I will be reviewing more later!):

Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self Tanning Face Oil ($42 USD) — Natural DHA provides a radiant bronzed glow while Josie Maran Blueberry Argan Extract, coconut water, black tea extract, aloe vera, and chicory root work together to nurture, hydrate, and soothe skin while improving clarity and skin barrier function. What I think: I am using this right now, hoping it will develop well overnight! It has a nice scent, sweet and almost like vanilla or chocolate. The oil is dark and thin, but it only took a few drops to cover my face. I also applied it to my neck, chest and arms to see what it would do. It gives an instant glow and a bit of natural color. I love that it also has skincare benefits!

What I think: This has a fresh, soft floral scent that is so nice when applying it! I love the light feel to it and it sinks in quickly. My skin is soft and not sticky after I apply it! It is clear, so I have to be careful to apply it evenly. It gave me a medium golden tan. I love the color! Next time I’m going to try two coats to get a darker shade.

What I think: I received a sample of the Dark to test. I applied it with an extra pair of latex hair coloring gloves I have. It’s a good way to apply when you don’t have a mitt. I applied a little at a time, but it doesn’t really spread around, so try to apply it quickly and rub it in. The mousse has color, so I could tell where I was applying and got an even application. My skin was pretty pale, so when it developed, it is a very dark color. It took a little to get used to it! This is affordable and really works! Maybe get medium if you are very pale!

Both of these products are well pigmented and very pretty on. I like that the blush is not glittery and a little goes a long way. You can use one color or blend them both together. The lipstick is a little too bright for me, but it is very moisturizing for being matte.

These are easy to apply. The brush is thick and coats the nails well. The colors are vibrant and last a few days of normal wear without chipping, which is great! I am loving the festive colors for the holidays!

My Beauty Favorites — Week of November 23-29, 2015

I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving weekend! We’ve had freezing rain for days now, but that hasn’t stopped my shopping (online)!

What I think: wet n wild’s makeup is fun to use and so affordable. The brushes are soft and pick up pigment well. It’s hard to believe that they are so inexpensive, plus they are PETA certified! The Proline marker and Cat Eye mascara help create a bold eye! The marker is so easy to use and can make a thick or thin line. And, I love that the mascara curls as well as adds volume!

I am wearing the nail polish in a gold color, All That Jazzy. It is a pretty color that is perfect for the holiday season. It went on extremely smoothly and has lasted for a few days without chips!

My Beauty Favorites Week of May 4-May 10, 2015

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers and caregivers out their that do so much for others! My daughters spoiled me today and I hope you all received the Queen’s treatment, too!

My faves this week are a random mix of goodies. From a battery-powered manicure kit, to an eye cream + brightener duo, to an affordable self tanner, to hair fibers that make my hair look thicker, I have been testing lots of great new products!

Product Round-Up — My Fave Beauty Things Week of November 24-30, 2014

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you eat and shop too much? I definitely did! But, I still have a lot more shopping to do!

This week I’m loving dry skin fighting skincare, a tropical scented deodorant and a self-tanner that is giving me a healthy glow. It’s important to keep looking and feeling good during this stressful time of year!

I am a huge advocate of using sunscreen all year round, but especially during the warm seasons when I go outside more than usual.

But, I also love not being pasty white in the summer! So I have not only intensified my sunscreen efforts, I have began self-tanning. I never get super dark, but I do like a bit of a glow.

Below are products to help get ready for the sun — and to help you look like you’ve been soaking up the rays!

What I think — This comes in Fair, Medium, and Dark. I like using the Medium. This is very easy to apply. Just squirt the mousse onto a tanning mitt or gloves, and rub in. Really fast! It does last longer than a long time without fading, which I love. It smells pretty good, but there is a faint smell to it.

What I think: This sunscreen is easy to apply with the built-in applicator. I have it in the Translucent, which is good to use on the face, body and hair. I think the other two would be fun to try in the summer, especially in cute summer outfits!

What I think: I have been testing this in the SPF 50. For me, the higher the SPF, the better! I really love the scent, but I don’t see much of a bronzing color. But, I love the high SPF!

This is a HUGE size! I have tried it before and really love the natural color it gives. It looks like you’ve been out in the sun and got a very even tan. I have used the mitt and love the coverage you get with it without the mess. The self-tanner is tinted so you can make sure that you get and even application and it is good for you skin. It is infused with Maracuja oil. I haven’t tried the face towelettes but I will this weekend as I am doing a self-tanning post next week and I will let you know how they work.

For the past few summers I have been enjoying experimenting with self-tanners. I am very wary of the sun and try to wear lots of sunscreen when I go out. Plus, I am not much of a sunbather anyway.

It has taken me these few years to get self-tanning right. It is so easy for skin to become streaky or blotchy after self-tanning. I have been receiving samples of self-tanners to review for my honest opinion. Here’s what I think of the gradual self tanners and instant self-tanners I have been using.
