What I think: These are so nice to have in a summer first aid kit. Especially if you are going into forests and you don’t know what type of plants are there. And they work! Get A Safe Glow — Self-Tanner Comparison

For the past few summers I have been enjoying experimenting with self-tanners. I am very wary of the sun and try to wear lots of sunscreen when I go out. Plus, I am not much of a sunbather anyway.

It has taken me these few years to get self-tanning right. It is so easy for skin to become streaky or blotchy after self-tanning. But if you exfoliate the skin and slather moisturizer on your hands and feet (these places can look uneven), plus use a fab product like the ones below, self-tanners can make you look great!

I have been receiving samples of self-tanners to review for my honest opinion. Here’s what I think of the gradual self tanners and instant self-tanners I have been using.

L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse Shine Stain by Colour Riche ($9.99 USD) This lightweight lip stain is designed to deliver long-lasting color with a glossy, high-shine finish (vs. the matte effect that many stains provide). I have been testing Stubborn Plum, a violet-pink almost mauve color. It is a bit 80’s for me, but it’s pretty. For a stain it is very moisturizing, but it has a funky taste. I think that if you do want a long-lasting lip color, this is a good choice because it is not drying at all. Plus it comes in lots of shades!

Merle Norman Color Max Shadow in Lavender Ice ($12 USD) High-fashion shadows are packed with pigment to give you maximum color pay-off in a single swipe. Duo-chromatic pigments and pearlized powders create multi-dimensional effects with a satiny-smooth finish.

This is a gorgeous color on. The lavender is shimmery, but not glittery, which I love. Great alone with a dark liner.

Merle Norman Moist Lip Color in Cotton Candy ($15 USD) The name says it all! Soft, beautiful and oh-so-yummy lips are yours with this nourishing, light formula that provides sheer, luscious color and shine with moisturizing benefits.

This is my favorite lip gloss at the moment. So pretty and light and very moisturizing. Not sticky at all.

I haven’t tried most of these brands (except for Color Club) and I was so excited to try them! I love the green (Pantone color of the year) polish. It is a gorgeous color and quite edgy. The eyeshadow is a great everyday neutral. The blush is so pretty and shimmery. The brush is very cool, it unfolds so it can be used as a wider, flat brush for blush or bronzer. Close it up and it is a good kabuki powder brush. It has very soft bristles, too.

My least favorite products are the mascara, which gives a natural look (I like a more dramatic look) and the eyeliner is not very pigmented. They will be fine for a soft, natural look.

The first partnership pairs furniture and interiors designer Faye Toogood (who has worked with Opening Ceremony, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen) with makeup artist Ayami Nishimura to create the New Medieval Collection.

MAKE Soft Focus Foundation ($32.50 USD) — Delivering flawless coverage and a velvety finish, our Soft Focus Foundation helps to correct uneven skin tones and smooth fine lines through revolutionary, light-diffusing micro-spheres. Usage: Apply after moisturizer and primer using sponge or brush. Blend well and let set a few minutes.

What I think: This is a beautiful foundation. It is so light on the skin, but it gives great coverage. The finish is dewy, but not shiny. It wears really well, too!

MAKE Matte Finish Blush ($22.50 USD) — Look fresh as a summer rose with our luxurious Matte Finish Blush. The high-quality, jet-milled pigments provide true, long-lasting color and wear. What I think — This matte blush is available in 6 shades. The color above (which I have) is called Tutu. It really brightens my pale skin, but I think it would look great on all skin tones. I love the matte finish, but it is not cakey at all.

MAKE Satin Finish Eyeshadow ($18 USD) — Give an eyeful with our gorgeous, softly luminous Satin Finish Eyeshadow. In a variety of jet-milled pigments with fine shimmer and vitamins C and E for anti-oxidant protection. Apply dry or wet for a more dramatic finish.

What I think — This comes in 22 shades. I have Ivy, an intense forest green with an emerald undertone. It is perfect for a smoky look, in the crease or as an eyeliner. Pretty!

Rosehip soybean and safflower oils provide lips with all day hydration, while the softly lustrous shades also soothe and nourish with chamomile extract and vitamins A, C and E. What I think — The shade above is Cordoba, a medium rose with a golden pearlescent glow. It is very pretty on, but also extremely moisturizing! Available in 12 shades.

What I think: This is one of my favorite BB Creams so far. I have it in light and it is fairly close to my skin tone. Most “light” BB Creams are too dark or orange for me. It melts right into my skin and gives a very natural, dewy finish. A little powder and concealer and I’m good to go. I have also noticed with use my skin is clearer and looks a bit firmer! Great product for the price!

Have Fun With Your Hair With Rita Hazan POP Color

What I think: This is fun, vibrant color that is so easy to use. Plus it works on all hair colors, from my daughter’s strawberry blonde locks to my dark brown ones. If you want all over hair color, you will probably need two cans to saturate medium length hair. We used them for tips and streaks and used about a can per head. This would be great for everyday if you want a fun, creative look, or for holidays and parties!

Winter getting you down? I find that being snowed in makes me want to get out and go shopping! Today, I finally got out of the house and went looking for some bright spring makeup. Some of the bright shimmery colors did lift my spirit. Here are some great new finds:

What I think: I like this for a few reasons. First, it has SPF 30 — that is amazing for makeup of any kind. If your moisturizer doesn’t have SPF, this can do that job for you. Also, for a primer, you get pretty good coverage. It could be the only face product (besides powder and a little concealer). I gives a natural matte finish. This is available in 4 shades — Fair, Light, Medium and Tan. If you plan on using foundation over this, the shade doesn’t need to match exactly. I use a combination of Fair and Light and I can use it for foundation.

What I think: I haven’t tried this yet, but I know that Laura Mercier’s baked shadows are gorgeous. Really well pigmented and so pretty on! These colors just look like spring to me!
