Sephora Holiday 2017 — Reach Out and Gift!

Sephora, the beauty mecca we all know and love, has a cool new campaign this holiday season.  It’s called Reach Out and Gift and it features their beauty experts, pictured above.  Here is more info:

Sephora’s holiday campaigns have always celebrated beauty, so this year is no different. Sephora knows the importance of developing a personal, emotional connection with, and understanding of, the unique one-of-a-kind loved ones of your gift list. With that in mind, Reach Out and Gift was created to celebrate how beauty unifies people of all different interests, and encourages them to build personal connections with one another, whether its people they know or don’t know.

Sephora’s beauty experts help personalize beauty for our clients in stores every day, so it made sense for us to feature them in this campaign. Of the 1,000 consultants that applied to be a part of the campaign, 10 were chosen from all over the U.S. and Canada based on their definition of what unique beauty means to him or her, and their own personal take on beauty. With the help of Inez and Vinoodh, Sephora was able to embrace and brilliantly bring to life its first campaign with its Sephora family—its Cast Members!

Of the ten Cast Members that are included in the campaign, one is actually located right in Kansas City (where I live) at Sephora Town Center Plaza! Her name is Alley Cage and she is on the top row, 4th from the left in the photo.

Alley is a Senior Artist at the Sephora Town Center Plaza store in Kansas City, and has been with Sephora for 6 years. Alley also supports two other stores with training and continued education in artistry, as well as provides content for Sephora’s YouTube Channel.

Alley wanted to work at Sephora because it “felt like coming home.” The first time she ever walked into a Sephora, she felt like she had found people that understood her “hunger for self-expression,” and that they “wanted to make people feel beautiful and celebrated for what made them uniquely beautiful.” Six years later, she feels the same holds true, “it is a place that helps you empower yourself to feel beautiful from the inside out.”

Alley applied for Sephora’s Reach Out and Gift campaign because she received a gift from Sephora that lent itself to a bigger idea – Sephora is a place to inspire beauty. Her mom gifted her her first brush set when she was twelve and it changed her life, it inspired her love for makeup and passion for creating. “Makeup became my armor and outlet when I was growing up and those brushes were the key to creating. Sephora helped me to see the beauty within myself when I was a teenager recreating looks in my bedroom, but they have also helped me to see my own beauty as grow my own artistry and career.” “I can now see my own beauty when the makeup is rinsed off and that I bring a lot to the table by being just the way that I am. This campaign is a celebration of that very premise and of the beauty that lives in others. To be the face of that beautiful idea is the biggest privilege I could ask for.”

Congrats to Alley and the other Cast Members who were chosen!

Up Your Skincare Game This Fall With Meaningful Beauty, H2O+ and CeraVe

It snowed a little yesterday (Halloween) in Kansas City!  I think that’s the first time in the 11 years I’ve been here.  A couple of weeks ago, it was in the 80’s.  But that’s KC weather for you…unpredictable!

So now that it’s colder (for a few days at least) my skin is showing it.  I have some dry patches and unevenness, so it’s time to really take care of my skin.

These are the products I have been using lately.  The H2O+ products are new and really cool, the Meaningful Beauty one are great for anti-aging and the CeraVe are great hydrators:

H2O+ Oasis Hydrating Gel Eye Mask 8 Pack ($26 for 8 or $4 for 1) — These single-use, hydrating gel eye masks cool and refresh on contact, pampering under eye circles to help reduce puffiness so eyes appear more awake. These and the face masks are cotton on the outside and gel on the side that touches skin, which I love. The texture for both is very dry though, no serum, just a gel that doesn’t make your face wet.  Strange, but it worked well.  My under eye are was smooth and firm after use.

H2O+ Infinity + Wrinkle Reducing Booster ($38 USD) — When you combine, the customizable Wrinkle Reducing Booster with your favorite H2O+ serum or moisturizer, the results are swift and powerful.

H2O+ Waterbright Brightening Gel Mask 8 Pack ($36 for 8, $5 for 1) — These single-use, brightening gel facial masks will leave your complexion radiant and glowing while feeling smooth to the touch. This left my skin so bright and firm.  It was not wet at all, so no excess serum to rub in, but it was dry and smooth.  Very nice and makeup can be applied right afterwards.

Available at http://www.h2oplus.com

Meaningful Beauty Intensive Triple Exfoliating Treatment ($52 USD) — Formulated with three different types of exfoliating technologies (alpha hydroxy acids, papaya enzymes and environmentally friendly silica beads) and purifying French clays, it works triply hard to give you spa-at-home results with no down time. Simply use twice weekly in the shower to banish dull, rough texture, dirt and impurities and reveal a perfectly polished, radiant complexion. It really leaves skins smooth, too!

Meaningful Beauty Youth Activating Melon Serum ($76 USD) — This evolutionary facial serum harnesses the anti-aging power of Meaningful Beauty’s next generation melon technology. Now featuring encapsulated melon leaf stem cells suspended in the formula for maximum potency and a duo of plant extracts, this technologically advanced formula visibly increases firmness and elasticity while it helps to protect skin from future environmental damage.

Meaningful Beauty Overnight Retinol Repairing Crème ($68 USD) — This intensely hydrating overnight moisturizer features the anti-oxidant properties of Meaningful Beauty’s famous French melon and the well known youth revealing properties of retinol. It really reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead!

CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen ($12.15 USD) —SPF 30, sunscreen provides broad-spectrum daily protection against sun’s damaging UV ageing and UV burning rays. Helps to protect and restore the skin, keeping it younger, fresher and healthier looking. The ceramide rich formula provides essential ingredients to maintain a healthy skin barrier. SPF is so important every day, even when it’s cold and cloudy out.

CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion ($7.10 USD) —Moisturizes throughout the night and helps restore the protective skin barrier. Formulated with hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture and niacinamide to help calm skin.Utilizes patented MVE® controlled-release technology enabling steady release of ingredients for all night hydration. Fragrance free, hypoallergenic and non-irritating. This sinks right into the skin while instantly hydrating.  It really help my dry patches.

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($8.52 USD) —Lightweight formula that provides 24-hour hydration and helps restore the protective skin barrier with three essential ceramides. Formulated with hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture. Free of fragrance and oil, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and non-irritating. I love this for my hands, legs and feet.  It’s not greasy at all, it actually has a pretty light texture, but it’s so hydrating!

My Little Pony: The Movie Collection Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches!

I recently received the PUR Cosmetics My Little Pony: The Movie Collection Eyeshadow Palette for my honest review.  I was excited to try it, because I thought the colors looked really fun.  I usually wear fairly neutral shadows, but I do like trying new palettes!

Here is the cover of the palette.

The inside of the palette with the cute pony protective cover on it. I overall like the packaging.  The outer box is so cute.  The palette is nice, but white will get dirty fast!  I love that there is a mirror inside!

And here are the shades.  They are from left to right starting with the top row:

KINDNESS (yellow with small pearl)                                                               FLUTTERSHY (soft pink with shimmer)                                                        GENEROSITY (matte mauve)                                                                                     RARITY (matte white)                                                                                          APPLEJACK (orange with shimmer)                                                                      HONESTY (brown)                                                                                                 LAUGHTER (sparkly mauve pink)                                                                               PINKIE PIE (hot pink matte)                                                                                 TWILIGHT SPARKLE (pinky purple shimmer)                                                              MAGIC (bright purple)                                                                                            RAINBOW DASH (royal blue with shimmer)                                                                 LOYALTY (dark green with shimmer)                                                                       TEMPEST SHADOW (matte bright red)                                                              SONGBIRD SERENADE (dark purple with shimmer)                                              STORM KING (silver with shimmer)                                                                    PRINCESS SKYSTAR (mint duochrome)

I think my favorite right now are Generosity, Rarity (a great base shade for me), Laughter and Princess Skystar.  Here are the swatches:

Kindness, Fluttershy, Generosity, Rarity, Applejack, Honesty, Laughter and Pinkie Pie

Twilight Sparkle, Magic, Rainbow Dash, Loyalty, Tempest Shadow, Songbird Serenade, Storm King, Princess Skystar

It’s funny, but the shades I love didn’t swatch well on my arm, but look great on my eyes! All of these are very well pigmented and don’t kick up in the pan.  There’s not much fall out either.

This retails for $29, which I think is a great price for the quality.  Purchase hereor at Ulta.com.

Have you tried this palette?  What do you think?

My Beauty Favorites — Week of October 23-29, 2017

It has become so cold in Kansas City!  It definitely is fall and almost feels like winter!  I am enjoying it, though!

My favorites this week include a cleanser that will get the gunk out of pores, a cool rubber mask and sweet smelling bath products:

Bioré Skincare Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser

Bioré Skincare Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser ($7.99 USD) —  This breakthrough cleanser gets pores twice as clean after just one use, in as little as 30 seconds. By combining natural charcoal with Bioré Skincare’s exclusive Skin Purifying Technology, this cleanser provides targeted deep cleansing for a smooth, clear complexion without irritating skin.

What I think: This is a great cleanser for cleaning pores.  It gets in and helps with blackheads and pore size without irritating skin.  This is also great for teenagers who want to get clean and not worry about drying out their skin.

Purchase at select food, drug and mass merchant stores

Masqueology Intensive Moisturizing Rubber Mask

Masqueology Intensive Moisturizing Rubber Mask ($2.50 USD) — This rubber mask moisturizes and improves skin elasticity with hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, green seaweed extract, chamomile, lavender, soy protein, almond protein, wheat protein and several other ingredients guaranteed to soothe skin and make it glow. The product is not tested on animals.

What I think: This is so fun to use! You first apply the cream that’s in pouch on top to the skin, then apply the two peice rubber mask.  It’s light blue and looks creepy on! I left it on for 20 minutes, but it gave a range of 15 to 30. It feels cold on my face, so in cooler weather, it may not be as comfortable on.    When I removed it, there wasn’t any serum left to rub in and my skin was a bit red.  It did leave my skin smooth, and calmed down shortly after.

This will be available at Walmart stores soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Zoella Beauty Soak Opera Bath Soak & Shower Cream ($9.95 USD)– Say hello to your new bubbly bestie with Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Aloe extracts to soften and condition skin.

Zoella Beauty Pretty Polished Sugar Scrub ($11 USD) — Reveal dazzling skin with Zoella Beauty Sugar Scrub Pretty Polished! Buff your skin beautiful with my gorgeously scented body sugar scrub. Pretty Polished removes dull skin for a super smooth and radiant finish! Rub a dub scrub!

Surround yourself in Zoella Beauty Blissful Mistful‘s serene scent and enter your very own secret garden. Spray this elegant scent to mist your body with fresh and floral notes. Enriched wih Vitamin E and fruit extracts -Blissful Mistful truly is bliss in a bottle.

What I think: I love the fragrance of these products, they are yummy — sweet, but not cloying.  The scrub works so well to smooth my skin!  And the Soak Opera gives great bubbles in the tub or shower.  I do love taking baths, so I enjoyed using it for a bubble bath.  Blissful Mistful is a light scent.  I think my daughter will love it because it’s sweet and floral.  Very fresh and young.

My Beauty Favorites — Week of October 16-22, 2017

It’s been cooler this week, so it finally is starting to feel like Fall!

This week, I am loving skincare products that are helping me transition into the cooler weather.  They include amazing cleansers, serums and a great new drugstore brand.  I was sent these fabulous products for my honest review:

The original EVE LOM cleanser ($80 USD) was the first of its kind, putting balm cleansers on the map. With a more in-dept, spa-like application process, this cleanser gives your skin a luxurious experience, removing all dirt and makeup residue, calming your skin down and allowing it to breathe.

EVE LOM Morning Time Cleanser ($60 USD) wakes your skin up and acts as the perfect base for your daily makeup. Achieve the same radiant, glowing complexion as the award-winning original cleanser, now in a quick, rinse-off formula. No muslin cloth needed.

EVE LOM Gel Balm Cleanser ($60 USD) is the latest addition to the cleanse collection. The same benefits as the original cleanser, and the Morning Time Cleanser, now in a new gel-to-balm formula, easily dispensed out of a pump bottle.

What I think:  These Eve Lom cleansers are so luxe, and they really clean without leaving my skin dry.  The original, is like a spa product, and it includes a muslin cloth to remove dirt and makeup.  Even though it really cleanses well, it doesn’t irritate sensitive skin!  The Morning Time cleanser is easy to use and the Gel Balm comes in a nice pump and really hydrates the skin!

Available at Sephora and other high end beauty stores.

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Vitamin C Serum

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Vitamin C Serum ($165 USD) –A daytime vitamin C serum that delivers advanced environmental protection and improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, and brightens skin’s complexion. Featuring a synergistic antioxidant combination of 15% pure vitamin C, 1% vitamin E, and 0.5% ferulic acid to enhance protection against environmental damage caused by free radicals that can contribute to atmospheric aging. This vitamin C serum helps neutralize free radicals induced by UVA/UVB, infrared radiation, and ozone pollution, which may lead to visible signs of accelerated skin aging. *Paraben-free and ideal for normal, dry, and sensitive skin types.

What I think: This is an amazing serum!  This is a morning serum that fights free radicals from daily sun exposure.  Plus, it works really well under makeup.  And I love that it doesn’t irritate sensitive skin. With continued use, I can see improvement of my wrinkles and the firmness of my skin.  Awesome!

Purchase at http://www.skinceuticals.com

YourGoodSkin Refreshing Face Wash ($7.49 USD) — This Refreshing Face Wash gently washes away make-up, excess oil & daily impurities. Skin looks healthy & feels instantly energized.

YourGoodSkin Balancing Skin Concentrate ($19.99, on sale now for $14.99) — This Balancing Skin Concentrate restores & maintains skin’s natural balance for clinically proven visibly healthier skin in just 28 days.

YourGoodSkin SPF30 Anti-Oxidant Day Cream ($12.99 USD) — This SPF30 Anti-Oxidant Day Cream defends & cares for skin, helping protect it from the environment. Skin looks healthy & feels balanced all day.

What I think: I’ve been trying out these and am enjoying them.  The face wash has a light citrus scent.  It cleanses well and leaves my face feeling so fresh and hydrated. The concentrate works like a serum under my moisturizer.    And the day cream does smell like SPF, but I love that it protects my skin!  I’m going to keep using these, but so far I love that we can get affordable, effective skincare at the drugstore!

BoxyCharm Subscription Box Review – October 2017

I recently received my October Boxycharm! I have been subscribing for a few months now and have generally enjoyed it.

Boxycharm is just $21 a month for 5-6 beauty items, most of them full-sized.

The products I received this month are:

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion – $58 USD

Becca Liquid Highlighter Prosecco Pop –  $41 USD

dls Eyeshadow Crayon — $14 USD

Tarte Tarteist™ Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Pillowtalk – $20 USD

Jonteblu Lip Liner Pencil in Brown Sugar – $5 USD

There were variations.  I could have received the Becca highlighter in a pressed powder (which I wanted) or a nail accessory kit instead of the eye pencil. And the Tarte and Jonteblu products came in different shades.

I haven’t tried this before, but it gets great reviews from bloggers!  It claims to reduce the look of enlarged pores and mattifies shine. I will give it a try and probably will review it in the future.

I really wanted the pressed powder version of this!  I don’t use liquid highlighter.  I wasn’t even going to try it, but I swatched it on my hand (see it at the end of the post).  It’s very pretty!  It’s a shimmery gold and it’s not too dark.  So I might try it on my face and see if I like it.  I’ve read tips online to use it under eyes to brighten that area, but I think it’s too dark for my light skin to do that.  Still, I’ll have to play with it!

This is a pretty pinky bronze color!  It can be used as an eye primer or base.  It glides easily on, but doesn’t set, if that’s the type of eye product you like.  I don’t mind that it can transfer, because I layer powder shadow on top and it sets nicely.

The shade Pillowtalk is the lightest Tartiest lip color.  It is described as a white nude, and I agree.  It’s very pale on.  Since I am fair, it doesn’t wash me out too badly, but it looks like I am wearing a shade darker than my concealer on my lips! I tried the lip liner under it, but the Tarte product covers so well, I couldn’t even see the darker shade under it!  Oh well, I’ll see if one of my daughters want it.

What’s funny is that although the Tarte matte lippie didn’t work for my, this lip pencil makes a nice matte lip for me!  I line my lips, then color them in (I always do this with lip pencil, even if I’m going to wear another product over it).  The pretty Spice color gave me an amazing nude lip, not washed out at all!  The pencil is a little hard, but that does make it easy to shape my lips.  And it lasted a while on!

Swatches!  Left to right, the lip pencil, Tarte lippie, eye crayon and Becca highlighter.

Even though I was a little disappointed in this box when I received it, I am going to give most of the products a go!  I will try the dermabrasion and the highlighter, I’ll use the eye and lip pencil and only plan on giving away the lip color.  Not bad!

Next month already has some great spoilers including the CoverFX illuminating setting sprayWinky Luxe Kitten Palette and BoxyCharm x Luxie Quad Eye Travel Set Brushes!  I hope there are no variations on these products because I am excited for all of them!

Hydrate Skin With Kneipp Almond Blossom ‘Soft Skin’ Skincare Line

The air is getting cooler, which means my skin is getting drier! Good face care is more important than ever to keep my skin soft and comfortable.

I was send a selection of products from Kneipp, a natural skin and body care company. With Kneipp, I can cleans, prepare and hydrate my skin with their wide, moisturizing selection:

Kneipp Almond Blossom Cleansing Milk – “Soft Skin”

Kneipp Almond Blossom Cleansing Milk – “Soft Skin” ($15 USD) — gently cleanses and removes make-up without drying out the skin. It contains high-quality, nourishing almond oil and vitamin E.

What I think: First of all, the Almond Blossom scent is a bit powdery.  The scent does fade away after a while, if  that scent isn’t your favorite.

The cleanser is so easy to use.  I apply with a cotton pad, then use a moist cotton pad or towel to remove.  It cleans my skin well without drying it out.  I follow with the tonic (below).

Kneipp Almond Blossom Face Tonic – “Soft Skin”

Kneipp Almond Blossom Face Tonic – “Soft Skin” ($15 USD) — gently refreshes and cares for cleansed skin and removes any remaining cleansing milk. This face tonic with intensively nourishing pathenol does not contain alcohol.

What I think:  This actually helps remove the cleansing milk, but doesn’t dry out my face at all.  I love how clean it feels and that it doesn’t contain alcohol.

Kneipp Almond Blossom Light-Weight Face Lotion – “Soft Skin”

Kneipp Almond Blossom Light-Weight Face Lotion – “Soft Skin” ($25 USD) — with high-quality almond oil was developed especially for the needs of sensitive skin which it provides with lasting moisture. The gentle care protects and calms the skin and supports its natural regeneration. The light texture is rapidly absorbed and makes the skin feel velvety and nourished. The ideal care for every day. Also very suitable for use as a make-up base. The almond oil is very well tolerated by sensitive skin. The natural nourishing effect is enhanced by the combination of cell-protecting vitamin E and nourishing shea butter.

What I think: I think of this cream as a day cream.  It’s also great for hot and humid nights, when I don’t want to wear a heavy night cream!  It’s so light, but it’s also really hydrating.  And it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin!

Kneipp Almond Blossom Face Cream – “Soft Skin”

Kneipp Almond Blossom Face Cream – “Soft Skin” ($25 USD) — contains high-quality almond oil which is also very well tolerated by sensitive skin. The natural nourishing effect is enhanced by the cell-protecting combination of vitamins A and E, rich shea butter as well as skin-soothing panthenol. Because of its lipid-replenishing character, the intensively nourishing face cream makes the skin noticeably more supple, provides it with lasting moisture and supports the skin’s own protection from photo-aging.

What I think: This natural face cream comes in a cute little jar! It’s a great night cream — it does contain shea butter which really hydrates but can be heavier.  By morning, my skin is so soft and glowy!  This cream also does not irritate my sensitive skin.

These natural products are very effective and affordable for what they do for my skin!  None of them irritate and they hydrate without making my skin greasy!

My Beauty Favorites — Week of October 9-15, 2017

It’s been a good but busy week!  I have lots of work and have been trying to fit in blog posts, too.  Maybe not as many as I’d like, but I got a few in this week!

This week, I’ve been loving a MUA favorite loose powder, a toothbrush that’s bristles floss and ponytail ties in a fun tin:

Maybelline New York Fit Me! Loose Finishing Powder

Maybelline New York Fit Me! Loose Finishing Powder ($7.99 USD) –provides the perfect finishing touch to your makeup base. Mineral-based formula helps to control shine and smooth skin’s texture and helps keep foundation set. Gives a sheer hint of color and is available in 8 shades to fit any skin tone.

What I think: This is a nice, light powder that doesn’t settle in my pores. It’s really great for setting my makeup, even under my eyes.  I can wear the fair and fair/light shades, since the color is sheer.  I really like that.  This is a great drugstore powder and is really affordable, too!

Doctor Plotka’s Toothbrush

Doctor Plotka’s Toothbrush ($4.99 USD) — As we head into a new season, it’s time for an upgrade to your traditional toothbrush. Complete with a sleek, NEW packaging and name, Doctor Plotka is the leading toothbrush for better health! With naturally antimicrobial, soft flossing bristles that are ultra thin at the tip to properly reach and brush away food and plaque in normally missed areas, you’ll keep the dentist away and sport a stunning smile!

What I think: When I first got this toothbrush, I thought that the bristles were going to be too soft to clean properly.  But, it cleaned my teeth so well and leaved them smooth (just like going to the dentist)!  I could feel the flossing bristles getting between my teeth, too.

The Cricket Co. Fix Your Ponytail Ties Tin

The Cricket Co. Fix Your Ponytail Ties Tin ($8.99 USD) — Cricket’s Fix Your Ponytail Ties Tin gives you 50 reasons to breathe a sigh of relief after you’ve searched high and low for your last “good” hair tie. In classic black, no metal (no ouch), conveniently packed in a retro style tin case that fits in the palm of your hand, handbag, gym bag, glove box, etc.

What I think:  This is a fun idea!  I really love the packaging.  The fact that their are 50 hair ties is awesome.  They are so easy to lose that it’s great to have back ups.  These don’t have metal so they won’t catch in hair. This is a fun gift ideas for teenagers and young adults, too!
