BoxyCharm Subscription Box Review – December 2017

IMG_9891

I received my BoxyCharm December 2017 box a couple of weeks ago, and it’s taking me a while to get to it!  My anniversary, my daughter’s birthday and Christmas have left me behind a bit on my blog!

Boxycharm is just $21 a month for 5-6 beauty items, most of them full-sized.

Here’s what I received from BoxyCharm:

IMG_9893

Real Her Blush Kit – (32 USD)

Crown WH035 PRO BLUSH BRUSH – ($12 USD)

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara – ($23 USD)

Pretty Vulgar My Lips Are Sealed Liquid Lipstick –  ($24 USD)

bellapierra Pro Concealer Palette – ($29.99 USD)

IMG_9896

img_9897.jpg

The Real Her Blush Kit is a very shimmery blush palette.  I really like the color Fearless on the left, which is a pretty pink.  Limitless is a nice coral and Unstoppable is bronze.  All of the color cosmetics I received will be swatched below.

I do like blush with a bit of shimmer, but this is pretty sparkly.  I can see using this in the summer time, especially  Fearless and Unstoppable.  I also like the packaging.  It’s a heavy duty cardboard and will be easy to travel with.

IMG_9900

I’m always so happy when brushes are included in BoxyCharm!  I love trying new brushes, and this one is great!  The bristles are densely packed and really soft.  I like how it’s oval shaped, it can be used for blush, highlight or bronzer.  The handle is sturdy plastic with indentations for grip.

IMG_9901

This is the second time I’ve tried the Tartiest mascara.  It has hard rubber bristles instead of more natural ones.  It’s okay, and can be built up for length and volume, but it never gets super glam like tarte’s Lights, Camera Lashes or IT Cosmetics Superhero.  It is a good everyday mascara.

The Pretty Vulgar (great name) lip gloss is metallic and pretty sticky, but it’s okay. I probably won’t use it often.

IMG_9898IMG_9899 The Bellapierre  Pro Concealer Palette is very pigmented.  I tried the orange under my eyes.  It didn’t blend well, but my concealer did cover the orange up and it looked okay.  I probably won’t use again.

Here are swatches of all of the color products:

img_9894.jpg

The first three colors are the color correcter palette, the second three are the blush and the lip color is the last swatch.  The only thing I really like are the first and third blush colors.

So this month was okay, but nothing wowed me.  I will use the blush brush and mascara.  I might use the blush palette.  I probably won’t wear the lip color and I definitely will toss the color correction palette.  What’s interesting about BoxyCharm is that they always have a couple decent brands, plus a few meh or poor quality brands/products.  But, at $21, the value is amazing!

Next month, the spoilers are IT Cosmetics Brow Power brow pencil, DR. BRANDT SKINCARE pores no more® Luminizer Primer, Crown Glam Metals Palette and a face palette from an unknown brand.  If those sound good to you (for $21), you can join here   There may be a wait list, and that is my affiliate link.

What did you get in your BoxyCharm this month?

BoxyCharm Subscription Box Review – November 2017

I recently received my November BoxyCharm! I have been subscribing for a few months now and have generally enjoyed it.

Boxycharm is just $21 a month for 5-6 beauty items, most of them full-sized.

The products I received this month are:

KNC Beauty Collagen Lip Masks (Set of 3) – $15

Laqa & Co Cloud Lips Airy Matte Lipstick in Storm-  $17, colors may vary

BoxyCharm x Luxie Quad Eye Travel Set Brushes – $32

CoverFX illuminating setting spray – $31

Winky Luxe Kitten Palette – $25

I think these lip mask are kinda strange.  I also have just got a Rodial one.  I guess I will be testing out lip mask this weekend!

This color is really dark in the tube, but is more like a berry shade– see swatch below.  I don’t really wear darker lip colors, but I may wear this during the holidays.

These brushes are gorgeous.  I love the look of them and they are so soft.  This includes from left to right:

221T: Flat Definer Brush – Use this to define and smudge out your lower lash line.

227T: Blending Brush – Use this for precise blending in the crease.

213T: Shading Brush – Use this to apply eyeshadow

207T: Angled shading eye brush – Use this for blending out any lines or for smoking out the outer corners of your eyes.

This is one of the items I was really looking forward to! It’s supposed to give the face a glow and help makeup last all day.  I tried it today, and it did leave a soft glow on my skin.  I’m going to use it in the morning before I go to work tomorrow, and then go out with my friends.  We’ll see how my makeup looks at the end of the day.

I am so excited for this!  I haven’t tried anything by Winky Lux before, and I have heard good things.  First of all the packaging is so cute!  I love the kitties on the cover.  I wish the palette had a mirror, but the size of the pans are good.

The shades are so pretty! (Swatches below) My favorite shade is the first in the middle row called Holographic.  It is a gorgeous pinky-lavender.  I wore this today.  I used Holographic on my lid and the dark gold glitter called Cateye in my crease.  As much as I loved it, mid day I had a lot of glitter on my cheeks.  I think and hope it was from Cateye, because I love Holographic so much.  Next time I will wear Chesire (the red color on the bottom row) in the crease.

On the left is the lip color. All of the shadows swatched well, except for the last two, dark mattes. I’ll be playing with the palette the rest of the week, for sure!

I am impressed with this box!  I didn’t care for October’s (see review here), but November was a hit.  I will use the shadow, brushes, and setting spray a lot.  I will try the lip masks and probably won’t use the lip color.

So far the spoilers for the December box are Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara  and Real Her Blush Kit.

I’m not too thrilled yet, I hope there’s something amazing coming.  But, we’ll see.

Julep Maven November 2017 Subscription Box Review

My Julep Maven box recently came!  This is the November subscription box. The cost is $24.99 a month ($19.99 a month with a 3-month subscription).

I have been a subscriber for over 4 years.  And I love it!  You don’t have to take a box each month, you can skip if you want to.  Which is so nice if I’m short a month or if I’m not feeling any of the items.

I also love that you can customize your box.  When I first started subscribing, I could choose from curated boxes, but now, I get to curate my own!  This month I chose a couple of skincare items and a polish:

The items I got are the polish in Talia (a cool shale shimmer), the Triple Quench hydration mask and the No Limits luxe hydrating creme.

Talia is a dark shimmery greige  nail polish.  It’s so pretty for the fall!

The Triple Quench Deep Hydration Sheet Mask System is supposed to be used before bedtime.  You apply the ampoule gel, then the mask and let it set for 15 minutes.  Afterwards you use the sleeping pack as the final step.  I haven’t tried this yet, but I probably will this weekend.  I’m excited to use it!

The No Limits creme can be used on face, hands or body.  It has a light fragrance, kinda fruity.  It’s really nice.  And it’s super hydrating without being greasy.  I guess it used to be in a jar, but the tube is easier to use and more hygienic.

Julep Maven October 2017 Subscription Box Review

My Julep Maven box recently came!  This is the October subscription box.

I usually choose polish and beauty items, but for this month I went for all polish and cute nail stickers.  I always love their polish choices for October:

The colors I chose are Johnny, True Black Crème, Christi, Enchanted Teal Shimmer and Ariel, Planetary Turquoise Glitter.  They are all super fall-ish and Halloween-y to me!

Plus, these fun metallic nail stickers!

Have you signed up for Julep yet?  If you use the code POLISHGIFT when you subscribe, you will get a free polish set when you join Julep Beauty Box. Includes twelve full-size nail polish. A $168 value.

VineOh! Wine Subscription Box Review: Oh! For Me! Fall Box

I received my very first Vine Oh! subscription box!  I was so excited to try this.  It consists of two bottles of wine and fun and pampering products.

Vine Oh! is $59.99 for a $120+ Value.  It is delivered 4x per year and includes free shipping.  Right now you can get $20 off your first box (like I did) with the code WineForMe.

It comes in one big box, but the surprises are in a smaller box on the top and the wine is packaged well on the bottom.

The box with the goodies!

Here’s what’s included, plus two bottles of wine!  Here’s the wine I got:

2016 New Crush California Pinot Grigio ($18.99 USD) — New Crush Pinot Grigio is an aromatic and complex wine that presents aromas of white peaches and white flowers, sea spray and oyster shell. The fresh and light flavors rang from casaba melon to citrus zest with a hint of Creme Fraiche in the finish. Perfect wine for all white wine enthusiasts.
2014 Speechless Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon  ($24.99 USD) Speechless Cabernet Sauvignon is a fantastic cabernet from the Lodi region in California. With aromas of toasted oak, jam, and tea leaves, this wine has rich dark fruit flavors with firm tannins. Great wine to enjoy on a quiet night; a night when being speechless is not only a nice treat, but a well-earned reward.
I have not tried the Pinot Grigio yet, but I can say that the Cabernet Sauvignon is very tasty!  It does have a deep, fruity flavor.  I don’t know much about wines, but reds are my favorite and I really enjoyed this one!
Now on to the box of goodies.  This was a big reason I got the box, because it included both wine and other treats:

Wei Mung Bean Sprout Stress-Relieving Smoothing Mask – $12 USD

Wei Millet Sprout Instant Smoothing Nourishing Mask – $12 USD

I have tried the Millet Sprout mask already and loved it.  These come with tongs to get the masks out of the serum.  The masks come in a tube.  Once you use the mask, you are left with lots of serum in the tube.  I have been using that on my face, neck and hands and love how smooth my skin looks!  I will try the Mung Bean Sprout mask soon.

Fizz and Bubble Milkshake Bath Bombs – $15 USD (Listed on card as $14)

These 12 bath bombs come packaged in a plastic drink cup with a straw inside and a loofah too!  It’s so cute and the Lavender Fields scent is very nice.  My daughter loves bath bombs, but I’ve already tried them out so she can have the rest if she wants!

This cute little tray is great for jewelry, lip balms etc.  It’s very sweet and will make a nice gift, if I decide not to keep it.
This is a really sturdy canvas bag with a fun saying on it.  I will use this to take packages to the post office.
Metropolis Gourmet Popcorn, 3.5 oz – $6 USD (Listed $5)
Well, these are gone! They were eaten by the second day I had them.  They were so tasty and sweet, but not too much so. This was a really nice treat!

Capabunga –  $5 USD

One of these little toppers comes in every VineOh! box.  They are so cool and handy! You slide them onto the top of the wine bottle and they can even be stored on their side in the fridge or counter without fear of leakage.

What do you think of this fun subscription box?  I think it’s really fun and I’m looking forward to the Winter box!

GlossyBox Review — September 2017

I received  my September GlossyBox in the mail.  This is my last box in my 3 for $30 deal.  I did cancel with them.  They are normally $21 per month .

Now through September 30th, use coupon code FALL15 to get your first GlossyBox for only $15! And you’ll get your next two boxes for $15 each, too!

GlossyBox ships to the US and Canada.

These are the items I recieved:

Lancôme Paris Advanced Génifique Sensitive Antioxidant Serum                  Lancôme Paris Visionnaire Advanced Multi-Correcting Cream SPF20                 Manna Kadar GLO                                                                                                         Morgan Taylor Nail Polish                                                                                      Pureology Clean Volume Shampoo                                                                        Pureology Clean Volume Conditioner                                                                    Freeman Beauty Infusion Charcoal & Probiotics Cleansing Clay Mask

The Manna Kadar Glo, the Morgan Taylor polish and the Freeman mask were all full sized.  The rest were samples.  On with the review!

These were products I hadn’t tried before.  For the serum sample, you push the blue product and it flows into the clear, and you shake it up and open.  I only needed a little, so this sample will last a while!  It it very watery and absorbed right away.  I haven’t seen a difference in my skin yet, but I will keep using it.

The sunscreen is really nice, it has a soft scent, and is creamy, not heavy or greasy.

This is a full sized illuminator, the Manna Kadar Glow.  I haven’t tried it yet, because I think I might give it away for Christmas.  I don’t use cream highlighters.  It is supposed to give a youthful glow and dewy finish, and you can mix it with foundation or moisturizer.  Actually, it might be nice mixed with a primer.  Hmm. I might try it after all!

The shade of Morgan Taylor polish I received is Magician’s Assistant.  Its a pinky/greige/lavender cream.  This is so pretty!  I’ll definitely be wearing this.  I love light colors and nudes.

Pureology is a great brand.  It uses natural ingredients effectively.  The shampoo is supposed to gently cleanses fine, colour-treated hair without stripping colour. Provides light, airy fullness with lifted root that lasts all day.

I won’t use these now.  I will keep them for a trip or to give away to someone who needs travel sizes.

This mask is full sized, and a drugstore product.  I haven’t tried it yet, but it smells nice.  I don’t use a lot of masks, I’m more of a scrub girl, so this might go in my giveaway pile.

This box was okay, better than the last two I received.  I will use the nail polish and the Lancome products.  The rest I’ll probably give away.

September 2017 Boxycharm Review

I received my September BoxyCharm and am so excited!  This is my second month (you can see my August Boxycharm review here).  It’s definitely one of my favorite beauty boxes and is worth the $21 per month!

Boxycharm contains 5-6 beauty items, most of them full-sized. It ships to the US and Canada.

This month, I received:

PUR Cosmetics Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette – $34

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Littlestitious – $6

MAC Cosmetics Eyebrow Pencil in Spiked – $18

Studio Makeup Luminous Loose Blush – $35

bareMinerals Perfecting Face Brush – $28

Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair Hair Mask – 2 oz $18

This is a gorgeous warm and cool toned neutral palette.  The first row are mattes, the second are satins and the third, shimmers.

I have been using this for the past couple of days and I really like it.  There’s a little kick up in the pan, but not a lot.  They suggest using each vertical row of three for a complete eye look.  I haven’t yet, but that’s a good suggestion.  So far, I really love Private Party, Gala and Stunner.  The glitters are nice when applied with my finger, but don’t show up well if I apply them with my brush.  They are so pretty, though!

Swatches can be found at the end of this post of all the colored makeup I received.

Colourpop’s Ultra Satin Lip is my favorite formula of theirs.  I have a Colourpop haul review coming up next week with more of these lovelies!

The texture of the is creamy and it applies very evenly.  It dries down a bit to a semi-matte, but stays hydrating all day.  This color is so pretty.  It’s described on the Colourpop website as dusty pinky purple, but it stains my lips a pretty berry color.  Love!

The MAC Eye Brow pencil is in the shade Spike, a rich brunette. It is listed as self-propelling and self-sharpening.  I had to press down hard to get the swatch below.  I haven’t tried it on my brows yet, but I hope it works better on hair.  The color matches my dark brown hair, which is nice.

The Studio Makeup blush is in a pretty peachy-pink color. There is a lot of blush in the container.  I swatched it below.  It’s fairly matte with a little shimmer.  I may give it away because I switch to a darker blush in the fall, but we’ll see.

I have been wanting to try this brush for a while!  It has a fluid reservoir (hole) in the middle to put foundation in.  Then buff the brush on the face to blend in the foundation.  I’ve tried it already and it works really well!

The Briogeo mask is a “weekly treatment to restore essential hydration and enhance hair’s resilience and strength.”  I haven’t tried it yet, but I hope it works well!

This month’s Boxycharm was a big win for me!  I’ll use the eyeshadows, lip color, brush and hair mask.  I’ll try the eye brow pencil.  The only item I probably won’t use is the blush.

GlossyBox July 2017 Review

Hi all!  This is the second of my three GlossyBoxes in my 3 boxes for $30 deal.

That deal is over, but for a limited time, use coupon code COOLVIBES to save 50% off of the August box AND get a free FREE Josie Maran Argan Illuminizing Powder with your first month of GlossyBox!

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription that sends 5-6 makeup, skincare, and hair care products in deluxe or full sizes. It costs $21 per month, less if you purchase 3, 6 or 12 month subscriptions.

This was supposed to be my first box, but I received August before July.  You can read that review here.  Here are the products that I received for July:

Plus an extra not on the fold out —De Bruyere Jumbo Eye Pencil in Bubble 07

Aerin Tangier Vanille Body Wash

Aerin Tangier Vanille Body Wash is a very nice luxury product.  I was very happy to receive it.  I haven’t used it yet and am trying to decide if I should keep it or give it as a nice gift!  I haven’t tried anything from Aerin, so maybe I’ll keep it!

Doucce Freematic Blush

Doucce Freematic Blush with compact.  The color is Summer Sunset.  It’s a pretty coral color.  It has a bit of a pearl finish.  It’s a little bright for me without a tan.

Doucce Freematic Blush Duo

This is the Doucce blush with the shade I got from my August GlossyBox called Pink Beach.  The Pink Beach shade is very light and needs building up to give some color.  It’s okay, but I have better blushes.

NCLA Clean Up Your Act

Sorry that this photo is blurry.  NCLA Clean Up Your Act polish removing pen is my least favorite product in the box anyway… It doesn’t have product in it.  It may have dried out before I received it.  I won’t use this.

The LaRoche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser is right up my alley!  I’ll save it for a trip this fall or winter.

De Bruyere Paris After-Sun Lotion smells amazing, like being in Hawaii.  It’s a very strong Monoi scent, but I like it. The lotion isn’t very thick, which is good for an after-sun lotion.  It will sink right into the skin. It’s a decent size, too.  1.76 fl. oz.  I will be using this for the rest of the summer.

I will also be using the Dr. PawPaw Original Balm.  When I got it, I used it on my sad cuticles and it instantly made them softer and feel better.  I will be using this on chapped lips, elbows, etc.  It’s fragrance-free.  I like fragrance, but I know lots of people don’t.

De Bruyere Paris Pearly Eyeshadow Pencil

De Bruyere Paris Pearly Eyeshadow Pencil.  Sorry about the blurry photo.  I definitely need a new phone (and better glasses)!  This wasn’t on the information fold-out, but I found it on the GlossyBox website.  It’s a medium shimmery shade and will work well as an eye shadow.  I have swatched it below the blushes:

Here are swatches of the color cosmetics I received.   The first one is the Doucce blush in Summer Sunset, then second is Pink Beach.  And I also have swatched the eye pencil.

I think this was a pretty good box, better than August’s.  I will use most of the products.

Do you subscribe to GlossyBox?  What do you like about it?  I’m trying to decide if I will keep it past the 3 months.  I guess it will depend on my September box. I might do three more boxes to see how the holidays go. We’ll see!

GlossyBox August 2017 Review

Hi all!  I used to subscribe to GlossyBox a few years ago, and decided to give it a go again!  At least for 3 months, anyway.  I subscribes with a 3 boxes for $30 deal.

That deal is over, but if you subscribe through August 31st, you can get a FREE Josie Maran Argan Illuminizing Powder with your first month of GlossyBox!

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription that sends 5-6 makeup, skincare, and hair care products in deluxe or full sizes. It costs $21 per month, less if you purchase 3, 6 or 12 month subscriptions.

The first box I was supposed to receive was July.  But, it’s still on it’s way to me, so I am reviewing August. The items I received for August are:

This is my variation.  Some people will receive the Freeman Beauty Infusion Charcoal & Probiotics Cleansing Clay Mask instead of the Rituals product.  I’m not sure what other variations there are, besides different fragrances for the Bliss Body Butter and I believe another shade of blush.  Some subscribers were able to choose their shade of blush, but I wasn’t.  It may have been because I just signed up.

Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara

This is the item I was most excited about trying.  It’s a tiny tube, but I will use it all! This mascara really gives length and volume.  My little lashes looked huge! This is one I would definitely pick up if I’m looking for a high end mascara!

Pixi Brow Tamer

I have tried Pixi products (like their amazing Glow Tonic) before, but not the Brow Gel.  I don’t use a lot of product on my brows because they are thick and dark, but I love Brow Gel to tame them.

This works well!  It sets my brows and doesn’t leave them sticky or stiff.  My brows have stayed in place all day and look really nice.  I will be using this every day to keep my brows neat and tidy!

This is a pan, not a compact.  The July box included the compact and one blush.  This pan is supposed to join the other blush in the compact.  Hopefully I’ll be receiving my July box soon and will be able to complete it.

This shade is called Pink Beach.  It’s a little light for my skin now, but will work well in the winter and spring. It has more of a matte finish and is really pretty.  The pan is small for a blush.  It looks like the size of an eyeshadow.  I will let you know how they work together when I receive the July GlossyBox.

These both smell amazing!  They are deluxe samples, so I will probably save them for vacations or short trips.  I may stick the body butter in my purse.  I always have lotion with me.

These are both nice, but I’ve tried them before and deluxe bath samples doesn’t have a wow factor!

Doctor Babor Hydro RX 3D Gel Eye Pads

Meh.  I have so many gel pads for eyes that I might use them, but probably will give them to a friend.

My favorite items in this box are the Lancome Monsieur Big mascara and the Pixi Brow Gel.  I will use the blush once I receive the compact.

The remaining three products will be gifted or used on trips.

Altogether this is an okay GlossyBox.  I did really miss the sturdy pink boxes, so am happy to have that too!  I am glad I did the deal and am looking forward to my July and September boxes!

November 2015 PopSugar Must Have Subscription Box Review

IMG_4341

I have been subscribed to PopSugar for over two years now and really love it!  You receive a box of goodies with a retail total of over $100 for $39.95.  If you’d like to subscribe, use coupon code MUSTHAVE5 to save $5 off your first box. Available at http://musthave.popsugar.com/

I received my October PopSugar Must Have a few days ago and have been enjoying the contents!  For a Fall box, it doesn’t have Autumnal or Halloween colors, but the items are really cozy.  Here is what is in the box:

IMG_4342

I received my November PopSugar Must Have today.  The items this month are great for giving. Here is what is in the box:

IMG_4347

Tarte Cosmetics Beauty & the Box Eye Shadow in Apple of My Eye (sorry for the blurry photo) – $22.  The shades are Golden Delicious (gold), Caramel (rust brown), Gala (dark brown), Honeycrisp (bronze). I like the colors, but I have so many natural eye shadow palettes.  I will give this away or sell it on eBay!

IMG_4345

IMG_4353

Capri Blue Mercury Jewel Box Candle in Rain – ($18.95 USD) — As you can see, my candle arrived broken.  Which is too bad, if you check out the website, it’s so pretty!  I have emailed PopSugar and I’m sure that they will send a replacement if they can.  They are pretty good about that sort of thing.

IMG_4349

West Emory Bingo Set ($20 USD on sale) —  This is a cool, modern set.  My kids and I will have fun playing this!

IMG_4346

Gramr Thankful Cards — These are so cute! They are a set of 5 Thanksgiving post cards.  I think that they would make great place settings at a Thanksgiving table. Or mail them out to family members who are far away.

IMG_4344

Terrapin Ridge Farms Pecan Honey Mustard ($7.30 USD) — I love mustard, but I’m not a fan of honey mustard.  Still, I will find someone who will use it to make a vinaigrette or to put as a glaze on salmon or chicken.

Ink Dot Print Gift Card $20 to use on their website.  There were also coupon codes for Capri Blue and Gramr.

I love PopSugar, but there isn’t anything in this box that I will use (except for the candle if I get a replacement).  That was the only thing I really wanted, but I think it should have been packaged in a box, then bubble wrap.  But it just came in bubble wrap. I will gift the rest of it, and maybe play bingo with my kids.  I am hoping that the December box has some nice items and maybe a good treat!
