BoxyCharm Subscription Box Review – December 2017

I received my BoxyCharm December 2017 box a couple of weeks ago, and it’s taking me a while to get to it! My anniversary, my daughter’s birthday and Christmas have left me behind a bit on my blog!

Boxycharm is just $21 a month for 5-6 beauty items, most of them full-sized.

Here’s what I received from BoxyCharm:

The Real Her Blush Kit is a very shimmery blush palette. I really like the color Fearless on the left, which is a pretty pink. Limitless is a nice coral and Unstoppable is bronze. All of the color cosmetics I received will be swatched below.

I do like blush with a bit of shimmer, but this is pretty sparkly. I can see using this in the summer time, especially Fearless and Unstoppable. I also like the packaging. It’s a heavy duty cardboard and will be easy to travel with.

I’m always so happy when brushes are included in BoxyCharm! I love trying new brushes, and this one is great! The bristles are densely packed and really soft. I like how it’s oval shaped, it can be used for blush, highlight or bronzer. The handle is sturdy plastic with indentations for grip.

This is the second time I’ve tried the Tartiest mascara. It has hard rubber bristles instead of more natural ones. It’s okay, and can be built up for length and volume, but it never gets super glam like tarte’s Lights, Camera Lashes or IT Cosmetics Superhero. It is a good everyday mascara.

The Pretty Vulgar (great name) lip gloss is metallic and pretty sticky, but it’s okay. I probably won’t use it often.

The Bellapierre Pro Concealer Palette is very pigmented. I tried the orange under my eyes. It didn’t blend well, but my concealer did cover the orange up and it looked okay. I probably won’t use again.

The first three colors are the color correcter palette, the second three are the blush and the lip color is the last swatch. The only thing I really like are the first and third blush colors.

So this month was okay, but nothing wowed me. I will use the blush brush and mascara. I might use the blush palette. I probably won’t wear the lip color and I definitely will toss the color correction palette. What’s interesting about BoxyCharm is that they always have a couple decent brands, plus a few meh or poor quality brands/products. But, at $21, the value is amazing!

I was sent these gorgeous metallic eye shadows, a lip topper and brushes for my honest review:

CATRICE Liquid Metal Eyeshadow ($5.99 USD each) — This highly pigmented powder, with a liquid metal finish, instantly creates stand-out eyes. Unique 3D embossment turns this eyeshadow into an absolute highlight.

What I think: I love these, they are so pretty on. I apply them with the wand then blend with my finger. They blend really well, but they dry quickly so I have to be careful! Once they dry, they are only coming off when taken off! The shades are so pretty on and can be built up for a really shimmery metallic look!

essence cosmetics The Metals Eyeshadows ($3.99 USD each) — This new formula goes on smooth with serious color pay-off and a metallic shimmer. Available in 9 shades ranging from soft bronze to vibrant teal.

What I think: These are metallic powder shadows in perfect shades for fall! They apply well and blend out nicely. I like using a brush for a softer look, but when I apply with my fingers, it’s full glamour! And the price is hard to beat! You can stock up with a few shades to make a complete eye look.

What I think: This comes in two shades. I have the shade on the left, Shade 20: Metallic, which is a silver shade. There is also Shade 10: Highlight – for a iridescent finish. The metallic one looks really cool alone (Halloween?) and very pretty over lipstick or lip gloss. This is a really cool way to switch up your look.

What I think: I have been testing lots of MODA brushes and really like the quality. They have soft synthetic bristles that blend really nicely. The metallic collection is really gorgeous and there are lots so different brushes to choose from to customize your kit!

Hair Tools and Products That Work From Summer into Fall!

It’s almost Fall! Yay! Time to get a new ‘do. At least that’s what I like to do, change up my look for the new season. If I don’t want or need a new haircut, I like to change up the styling of my hair.

I have been sent new tools and products to test out for my honest opinion. They include styling tools and products to hydrate hair and get it ready for styling:

What I think: This is such an easy way to get curls or texture in your hair! Just run the diffuser through hair while drying and you get volume and piecey curls or texture. My hair is wavy, and this amps it up! It is curlier and has tons more volume after use. And for girls with curly hair, this cuts the frizz and defines curls.

What I think: This is tiny! It’s really cute (I have it in Electric Green). Even though it is so small, it works very well to straighten and smooth hair. This is so nice to help battle what humidity does to my hair and it keeps it looking nice. It has a bag that you can carry it in and stick in your purse. This is also great for the college student who doesn’t have a lot of room, or for travels.

What I think: I’m a fan of a good hair mask! This one is a bit heavy for my fine, wavy hair. But, I think it would be great for girls and guys with thick hair or curls. It does have a strong lemon/lime soda scent. It’s not my favorite, but it’s not offensive. I do love the natural ingredients in it.

Easily Clean and Dry Makeup Brushes With The Brush Bar and The Brush Board

Being a makeup lover, I have to make sure to keep my tools clean. So when I was approached by The Brush Bar to review their brush cleaning and drying products, I was so excited!

So what are these products?

The Brush Bar – a smart tool that lets you dry your makeup brushes without damaging or misshaping them! Doubles as a organization tool – no more digging around for the right brush!

The Brush Board – the first makeup brush exfoliator that deep cleans between bristles for the quickest clean – no more scrubbing foundation brushes 10 times!

Above is The Brush Board. It has three different scrubbing surfaces to clean all types of makeup brushes. I wet my brush, then rubbed it across the board a few times. I then rinse it and see if I need to scrub it again. It’s a really fast (and a way less messy) way to cleanse my brushes! When not in use, I wash and dry it and put it back in it’s protective case.

I love this! It’s such a great idea and something I will use often to clean my brushes.

This is The Brush Bar hanging from the side of my sink. To use it, I just unfold the prongs and close it. Then I place it on the side of my sink and hang my wet brushes upside down.

It held my brushes tightly. There are different sizes of the prongs, for smaller and larger brushes. My brushes fully dried in a couple of days without losing their shape.

I think that these are ingenious products that are also fun to use! I highly recommend them.

Ulta Mother’s Day Haul

My kids gave me an Ulta gift card as a part of my Mother’s Day gifts this year. I don’t usually shop a lot for makeup since I receive a lot of fun products to review.

I was excited to grab some things I needed — and I got a fun free gift, too!

The items that I purchased was the Real Techniques 203 Tapered Shadow brush, The Ulta Beauty Matte Eye Primer and the Ulta Beauty Juice Infused Lip Oil in Green Tea + Avacado.

I’ve been playing with the palette and really like it. There are lots of fun eyeshadows. I find the mattes more pigmented than the glitters or shimmers, but they can be layered on for a deeper color. The highlighter, blushes and bronzer are highly pigmented and are very pretty on my fair skin. I like the blush brush that comes with it. The lip colors are bright. I like to wear softer lip colors, but they are nice. I am going to take this with me on my summer trip for my eyeshadows and face color. It will come in very handy.

Real Techniques Bold Metals 203 Tapered Shadow Brush ($12.99 USD) is densely packed and precision cut for blending shadow into the crease and eyelid for a seamless finish.

I lost my all over eyes hadow brush, so I needed a replacement. This picks up the pigment well and blends okay. I think it will work for now. The handle is nice and has a good weight to it.

Ulta Beauty Juice Infused Lip Oil in Green Tea + Avocado ($9 USD) — Ulta’s Juice Infused Lip Oil is a luxurious lip oil infused with a combination of natural ingredients that nourish and smooth your lips. Each of the shades offer separate ingredient benefits providing a combination of lip mending properties. The Juice Infused Lip Oils do not have any color once applied; they apply clear.

I like this very much. It has a fresh flavor and is very hydrating on. I wear lots of lip balms and oils and this is a good one! I’ll probably try some of the other flavors later.

My Beauty Favorites — Week of April 24-30, 2017

We have had a rainy weekend in Kansas City, and it has been nice to relax inside! I have been enjoying some of the new beauty products I have been sent for my honest review!

My favorites this week include an iridescent highlighter, a new way to apply my makeup, an firming eye cream, a sea salt spray that makes my hair thicker

Hard Candy Iridescent Pearl Highlighter ($6 USD) is a pearl illuminator that leaves skin with a wearable but trendy iridescent shimmer. This powder includes light-reflective pearls that diffuse light. The universal shade is flattering on all skin tones and smoothly applies to your skin with easy soft, sweeping motions. What I think: I have been wanting to try this trend, and this is an affordable (and gorgeous) way to do it. I apply the powder anywhere I want to glow, including the cheekbones, tip of the nose, collarbones, and under the arch of my brows. It’s so pretty on. I use a little, but layer it and you get a great evening out look!
