BoxyCharm Subscription Box Review — April 2019

IMG_0427

Hi all! I received my April BoxyCharm this week! I always watch for the spoilers so I basically knew what I am getting. But, there were a few different variations this month.

I’ve been subscribed to BoxyCharm for about a year and a half now and really enjoy it. Boxycharm is just $21 a month for 4-5 beauty items, most of them full-sized.  It is a nice way to try new makeup and beauty tools.

My version is 6. This month I received:

PUR Cosmetics Festival Pressed Pigment Palette –  ($36 USD)

Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder in Purple Dream –  ($27 USD)

Bodyography Eye Pencil in Bali Bronze — (14 USD)

Appeal Trendsetter Holographic Lip Gloss ($21 USD)

Luxie Summer Daze Brush Set – ($28 USD)

The total value for this box is $126.  Not too bad for a $21 box.

This is the theme and list of what I got. It’s a very festival themed box. There is a lot of shimmer and bright products in here.  I think someone who loves glitter and going to festivals will LOVE this box!

IMG_0436.JPG

I was happy to get more Luxie brushes.  The are from top to bottom 245 Small Shader, 512 Small Contouring, and 209 Large Shader.  They are nice quality, but I would love to see some other brands of brushes in BoxyCharm. I will use these, though.  I really need to clean my brushes and having back ups are helpful!

IMG_0431I received the shade Purple Dream. Which is funny, because it looks golden peach in the container.  It does have a purple flip to it.  You’ll see the swatch in the photo below. It’s really glittery, and I don’t think I will wear it as a highlighter.  I might try it as an eyeshadow or give it to my daughter.

IMG_0432This lip gloss is actually pretty nice.  It feels smooth and not sticky.  It’s a soft holographic and I think it would nice over a pink or nude lipstick, or just on it’s own.

The eyeliner is a shimmery brown.  I will use it, brown eyeliner is my favorite.

Here are swatches:

From left to right is the highlighter, eye pencil and lip gloss. I’m going to try these out more and see if I enjoy them!

IMG_0437IMG_0438

This is very fun!  There are shimmers, mattes and pressed glitters.  Here’s a few swatches:

IMG_0441.JPG

These swatched okay.  The glitters feel wet almost and swatched nicely, but I don’t really wear glitters.  The shimmers on the bottom on my hand are the four on the top pf the palette.  They swatched okay, but not the best.  I’m going to have to play with it, and I might end up passing it on. Also PUR is a very nice brand, but they are in BoxyCharm a lot.  I think BoxyCharm needs to bring in some other brands.

This box didn’t really thrill me, but I’ll use the brushes, and will test out everything else before I pass them on.  Last month, I decided that in June, I’ll be choosing between BoxyCharm/BoxyLuxe and Ipsy Glam Bag Plus.  You can see my April Ipsy GBP review here. I think Ipsy wins this month.  I think the products are a bit better quality for the price.  We’ll see what I think about May and June boxes.  Also, BoxyCharm is supposed to be coming out with a limited edition skincare box in May.  Hmm.

Do you get BoxyCharm?  What did you receive this month in your box?

I love IT Cosmetics.  It’s such a nice brand and the products have beautiful ingredients and amazing quality!  I think it’s gorgeous for all ages, but I think it’s perfect forolder ladies like myself.  The products contain anti-aging ingredients and their shades of color cosmetics are so lovely!

This exclusive four-piece collection features a NEW! brow-transforming essential, a lip-loving favorite in a new shade, an illuminating complexion must-have in new shades—plus a perfectly paired brush! First, create the look of your fullest, most natural-looking brows with the NEW! Brow PowerFULL Universal Volumizing Eyebrow Pencil. Use your included Heavenly Skin CC+ Skin-Perfecting Brush No. 702 to flawlessly apply your Supersize CC+ Cream Illumination with SPF 50+, then apply your NEW SHADE! of Je Ne Sais Quoi all over your lips for your most beautiful finish.

I have tried the wonderful CC+ Cream and brush before.  They are such a nice combo for dewy, hydrated skin.  And the size of the CC+ Cream is huge — 2.53-fl oz!  This will last a long time.

The Brow PowerFULL pencil is brand new.  It is universal for all hair colors, the unique triangular shape allows you to customize your application experience, from the finest line to a fuller-looking brow faster. Brow PowerFULL adheres to skin, covers gray, and looks like real hair!

I like the original pink Je Ne Sais Quoi Hydrating Color Awakening Lip Treatment, but it is a bit bright for my skintone.  This shade in Honey is a pretty nude shade and gives a nice, natural lip look.

This is such a great value!  Are you going to pick this up today?

Ipsy Glam Bag Subsription Box Review – January 2019

Hi all!  I hope you’re doing well and having a great weekend!  I signed up for Ipsy again at the beginning of January and was told my subscription would start with the February bag, but I also went on the waiting list for Glam Bag Plus (I’m going to try it again).  I got off of that waiting list and will now be charged and receive February’s Glam Bag Plus, so they just sent me a January Glam Bag!

Ipsy Glam Bag is only $10 a month (Glam Bag Plus is $25)  It’s deluxe samples and some full sized products. You can sign up for these at ipsy.com.

Here’s what I got:

YENSA PUMPKIN TURMERIC 2-in-1 Radiance Polishing Mask

LUXIE BEAUTY 1010 Small Contour Brush

KASCA Nail Polish in Velvet Black Matte

FLUIDE Lip Gloss in Elsewhere

CIATÉ LONDON Wonderwand Mascara in Black Magic
This is an okay bag.  I think since they packed it last minute, I got the strange leftovers. My favorite items is the Luxie Brush.  It’s really soft and blends contour nicely. I haven’t tried the Ciate mascara yet, because I want to save it for later or if I travel this year.  I will also try the Yensa mask.  I did try the Fluide lip gloss and it is very shiny and minty.  I don’t know how often I use it.  I will give the black nail polish to one of my daughters.
I am excited to get my Glam Bag Plus in February.  I will be posting a review once I do!

Ipsy Glam Bag Plus Review — November 2018

IMG_2496.JPG

Hi all!  I recently received my second Ipsy Glam Bag Plus ($25 USD), the November box. I received my first box in October.  You can see what I received for that box here.  It is a box that will always include 5 full-sized items.

I had looked in my Ipsy account and saw what I was getting again this month.  I wasn’t happy.  I had seen three spoilers — an IT Cosmetics eye shadow palette, an Ofra highlighter and a First Aid Beauty cleanser (all great spoilers). I didn’t get any of them.

Here is what I received:’

IMG_2499IMG_2502

tarte Make Every Moment Count Cheek Palette ($32 USD)                                                            SOL DE JANEIRO Brazilian Bum Bum Cream  ($20 USD for 2.5 oz)                                                SLMISSGLAM Eyeshadow Brush Trio – ($45 USD)                                                            Makeup Geek Foiled Lip Gloss in Set List– ($12 USD)                                                          dr. brandt needles no more NO MORE BAGGAGE eye de-puffing gel – Retail Value $42

This is a pretty blush palette from tarte.  I’m good in blush right now, but this will make a nice gift.  I like that there are three shades. I was hoping to get the IT Cosmetics palette, because I have been wanting to try it.

IMG_2505

This is the one item I’ll use from the box. I received a smaller container of this cream in a BoxyCharm this summer. I really love it.  It’s so hydrating without being greasy and the scent is a delicious pistachio caramel.

IMG_2504

These brushes are great quality.  I’m a little overloaded in brushes, so I will probably give these away. It’s a good brand, thought

IMG_2507I received this in BoxyCharm this year and didn’t like it at all.  It’s so thick and dry and irritates under my eyes.  I don’t know what I am going to do with it.

IMG_2509 This is a pretty fall color, but I don’t wear metallic lip products.  I will probably give it away.

So, this month was a bust for me.  It was $25 and the only thing I’ll use is the $20 cream. I will give the rest of this away.

I have cancelled this box, but maybe I’ll try it again sometime next year.  I’m afraid if they continue with the variations, I won’t get the items I want, which is what can happen in these kind of subscriptions.

Do you get Glam Bag Plus?  What did you get this month?

Get Your Shine On With Metallic Makeup For Fall!

Metallic eyes and lips are very on trend this fall. And luckily, we can achieve the look without spending a ton!

I was sent these gorgeous metallic eye shadows, a lip topper and brushes for my honest review:

CATRICE Liquid Metal Eyeshadow
CATRICE Liquid Metal Eyeshadow ($5.99 USD each) — This highly pigmented powder, with a liquid metal finish, instantly creates stand-out eyes. Unique 3D embossment turns this eyeshadow into an absolute highlight.
What I think:  I love these, they are so pretty on.  I apply them with the wand  then blend with my finger.  They blend really well, but they dry quickly so I have to be careful!  Once they dry, they are only coming off when taken off!  The shades are so pretty on and can be built up for a really shimmery metallic look!
essence cosmetics The Metals Eyeshadows
essence cosmetics The Metals Eyeshadows ($3.99 USD each) — This new formula goes on smooth with serious color pay-off and a metallic shimmer. Available in 9 shades ranging from soft bronze to vibrant teal.
What I think:  These are metallic powder shadows in perfect shades for fall!  They apply well and blend out nicely.  I like using a brush for a softer look, but when I apply with my fingers, it’s full glamour!  And the price is hard to beat!  You can stock up with a few shades to make a complete eye look.
CATRICE Million Styles Lip Topcoat
CATRICE Million Styles Lip Topcoat ($5.99 USD each) — The creamy texture provides a shimmering finish, or covers the lips with silver-metallic particles. Simply apply over dried lipstick for an instant transformation – the effect is intensified with every coat.
What I think: This comes in two shades.  I have the shade on the left, Shade 20: Metallic, which is a silver shade.  There is also Shade 10: Highlight – for a iridescent finish.  The metallic one looks really cool alone (Halloween?) and very pretty over lipstick or lip gloss.  This is a really cool way to switch up your look.
MODA Metallics Custom Flip Kit

MODA Metallics Custom Flip Kit ($24.99 USD) — Start with MODA Brushes signature limited edition black studded Flip Kit and add 3 Finishing and Complexion brushes and 3 Eye, Brow and Lip brushes. You’ll be set to slay your weekend travel the Metallic way.

What I think:  I have been testing lots of MODA brushes and really like the quality.  They have soft synthetic bristles that blend really nicely.  The metallic collection is really gorgeous and there are lots so different brushes to choose from to customize your kit!

Easily Clean and Dry Makeup Brushes With The Brush Bar and The Brush Board

Being a makeup lover, I have to make sure to keep my tools clean.  So when I was approached by The Brush Bar to review their brush cleaning and drying products, I was so excited!

So what are these products?

The Brush Bar – a smart tool that lets you dry your makeup brushes without damaging or misshaping them! Doubles as a organization tool – no more digging around for the right brush!

The Brush Board – the first makeup brush exfoliator that deep cleans between bristles for the quickest clean – no more scrubbing foundation brushes 10 times!

Above is The Brush Board.  It has three different scrubbing surfaces to clean all types of makeup brushes.  I wet my brush, then rubbed it across the board a few times.  I then rinse it and see if I need to scrub it again.  It’s a really fast (and a way less messy) way to cleanse my brushes!  When not in use, I wash and dry it and put it back in it’s protective case.

I love this!  It’s such a great idea and something I will use often to clean my brushes.

This is The Brush Bar hanging from the side of my sink. To use it, I just unfold the prongs and close it.  Then I place it on the side of my sink and hang my wet brushes upside down.

It held my brushes tightly. There are different sizes of the prongs, for smaller and larger brushes. My brushes fully dried in a couple of days without losing their shape.

I think that these are ingenious products that are also fun to use!  I highly recommend them.
