Hourglass Debuts New Fall Products at Fashion’s Night Out

Introducing the luxury brand Hourglass Cosmetics’ Fall 2010 launches – Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara and a brand new lipstick collection – Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick.

Both were a collaboration between Hourglass founder Carisa Janes and Artistic Director Gina Brooke. In case you are not familiar with Gina, she is Madonna’s makeup artist and has worked with a lot of other A-list celebrities such as Anne Hathaway and Naomi Campbell. The new products are:

Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick ($30.00 USD) is a collection of 12 gorgeous shades of hydrating lipsticks that are paraben-free. Each lipstick features an embossed Hourglass icon and comes in an engraved case that is refillable. The richly pigmented formula of Femme Rouge adds fullness and luster, immediately shaping and softening lips for a plush, cushiony effect. Shades include vibrant reds, creamy nudes, hot pinks and more.

What I think: This lipstick is very creamy and soft when you apply it. I own it in Edition, which is described as a soft neutral pink shimmer. This is a very flattering shade and it makes my lips look plush and full when I wear it. Beautiful!

Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara ($28.00 USD) adds instant drama to lashes without clumping or flaking. Film Noir’s signature hourglass-shaped brush is designed for optimal application, adding volume, length, lift, and separation to lashes. The intense concentration of Panthenol (ProVitamin B5) adds a reflective, jet-black sheen for dramatic impact.

What I think: As I said before on this blog, I have short, sparse lashes. In just one coat, this mascara made my lashes look twice as long and twice as thick! The formula is buildable so you can add even more drama with each coat you apply. This does not make lashes clump and does not flake or smear during the day. Awesome mascara!!!

Hourglass Artistic Director Gina Brooke led an exciting choreographed makeup show with two other makeup artists. Set to music, three models were meticulously and fluidly transformed into beautiful faces of art. Gina Brooke said, “The show’s about artistry, being innovative and making it fun.” The looks featured Hourglass’ Fall launches – Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick and Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

Fight Aging Skin With The Body Shop Natrulift Skin Care Line

The Body Shop has released a new firming skin care line called Natrulift. As with all of the Body Shop products, Natrulift contains natural, organic and Community Trade ingredients. This makes the products as good for our environment as they are for the skin! Some of the products I’ve tried are:

Natrulift Softening Facial Wash ($14.00 3.38 oz) — Best if you want to: Minimize the signs of aging and create a velvety-looking complexion with a softly-cleansing and refreshing facial wash. How it works:

Daily cleansing is the first step to beautifully soft and smooth skin, removing impurities and preparing the skin for daily moisturizer.
Pomegranate seed oil moisturizes skin and is rich in antioxidants to help minimize the damage cause by environmental aggressors.
Community Trade Brazil nut oil moisturizes and softens skin.

What I think: This is a fantastic face wash! When I first squeeze a bit out, it is very creamy, pearly and smells like pomegranates. So far, so good, right? Then I smooth it on my skin, gently massaging it in and rinse it. My skin is soft and looks smooth, too!

Natrulift Firming Serum ($36.00 1 oz) — Best if you want to: Minimize signs of aging and leave skin feeling firmer and more toned with a hydrating serum. How it works:

Has a temporary lifting effect: skin is plumper and hydrated.
Pomegranate seed oil moisturizes skin and is rich in antioxidants to help minimize the damage cause by environmental aggressors.
Organic Community Trade honey moisturizes and conditions skin.

What I think: This is my favorite product of the line. It is like a dose of instant gratification as immediately makes my skin look more even, smoother and lifted — and yes, younger! I apply this morning and night time before moisturizer. It is light and not sticky like some serums.

Natrulift Firming Day Cream ($30.00 1.7 oz) — Best if you want to: Minimize fine lines, smooth wrinkles and leave skin feeling firmer and hydrated with a day cream that moisturizes for up to 12 hours. How it works:

Has a temporary lifting effect: skin is plumper and hydrated.
Pomegranate seed oil moisturizes skin and is rich in antioxidants to help minimize the damage cause by environmental aggressors.
Community Trade Brazil nut oil moisturizes and softens skin.

What I think: This cream on top of the serum really firms and smooths the skin. It is almost the consistency of a balm, though, and may be too heavy for day time for some skin. If your skin is naturally dry, or dry in the winter like mine, this will be a perfect day cream.

The Body Shop Rainforest Hair Care Line

I love green skincare and makeup, so green hair care? It’s awesome, too! The Body Shop has recently introduced their eco-concious Rainforest Hair Care Line. It contains no sulphates, silicones, parabens or colorants. The products are biodegradable and recycled materials are used whenever possible.

The products I tried from the line include:

This shampoo contains pracaxi oil, white nettle, seaweed and Community Trade sugar and aloe vera. Community Trade seaweed helps balance, purify and clarify skin and Community Trade aloe vera moisturizes and protects hair.

Rainforest Shine Conditioner ($3.50 2.0 oz, $10.00 8.4 oz, $14.00 13.5 oz) claims to smooth hair’s surface for incredible shine and prolonged radiance using a shine-enhancing conditioner. Contains pracaxi oil, caméline seed oil and Community Trade olive oil, sugar, and aloe vera. Community Trade organic olive oil helps to condition hair.

Rainforest Moisture Hair Butter ($8.00 1.76 oz, $14.00 6.7 oz) helps create soft, glossy and tangle-free hair using a luxuriously rich and intensive deep-conditioning treatment. I really loved how each product smells fresh and clean. My favorite of the three is the hair butter. It is thick and creamy and really makes my hair soft.

What I think: This is quality nail polish that lasts a few days without chipping (a week with a great top coat) and the colors are beautiful. I try a lot of different types of polish, but I find that although these shades are a bit trendy, they are also very wearable. I love the Cubist, because it seems to change colors when I step outside. And Pop Art is very fun with this season’s grays, blacks and browns.

What I Think: The compact with the three foundation shades plus the powder on the bottom is portable and works so well to create a flawless face in minutes! The DVD instructions are helpful, but not necessary. I use the lightest shade as under eye concealer and highlighter, the medium shade as all over foundation, and the darker shade to contour. The brush is great for getting into corners of the face for highlighting and contouring. My lease favorite product is the Skinprep FX Nourishing Foundation Primer and Anti-Aging Serum as it felt a little heavy and oily on my skin. It might be great in the winter when my skin is drier.

What I think: This foundation is interesting because it feels like a serum while giving light and luminous coverage. It has a fairly thin texture that glides over the skin, and imparts a pretty glow. Being that it isn’t thick or heavy, it doesn’t settle in wrinkles and pores.
