My Beauty Faves Week of February 16-22, 2015

I have been watching the Oscars, and all of the ladies look gorgeous! It is important to choose great skincare, makeup, nail care and fragrances to pull of glam – and everyday – looks.

This week I am loving a fab skincare and foundation set, skincare for my nails and a fresh fragrance:

Glossier Phase 1 Set ($80 USD) — Glossier is resetting the beauty game, starting with the most important thing: a perfectly primed canvas. This is skincare as makeup—a mist, moisturizer, balm, and tint, designed to work together to perfect (not conceal!) skin while requiring minimal effort on your end. All you need are your fingertips.

Perfecting Skin Tint: This light foundation evens out discoloration and leaves your face looking toned, smooth, and dewy. The breathable, ultra thin formula auto-fits to skin, making application as simple as throwing on moisturizer. It is very sheer, like a liquid, but you can build it to a medium coverage. I like it, but it is a bit sheer for me (I need my coverage). I think it is perfect for those who want to showcase their good skin. Comes in three shades.

Balm Dotcom: A hydrating, long-lasting, do-everything skin salve that’s packed with antioxidants and natural emollients to nourish and repair dry, irritated skin. The dense, waxy texture stays in place to seal in moisture wherever it goes. I like to use this on my cuticles and as a lip and face balm when it is very cold out.

Soothing Face Mist: This spritz is made with roses and aloe to hydrate, soothe, and leave you feeling fresh and awake, prepping your skin for the Priming Moisturizer. Also excellent as a makeup refresher and midday pick-me-up. I love the sweet, floral scent and how refreshing it is. I loving using this facial spray before my moisturizer as it hydrates my skin.

Priming Moisturizer: This moisturizes, creates an even texture and helps with redness. This comforting cream allows you to layer and build up to the perfect amount of moisture depending on climate, season, or how your skin’s feeling on any given day. I like how moisturizing this is. It is more of a moisturizer than a primer, but it does help even out skin, getting it ready for foundation.

I have a sample of this in the Jasmine and Sparkling Mimosa scent. It is fresh and sweet, like juicy fruit — a perfect spring scent. And, it is light so you can spritz it on the body, or in your hair. Very nice and so affordable!

What I think: This is such an interesting idea for treating aging skin. When I opened the box and saw the 4 rows of individual capsules, I noticed that they seemed all the same. But, as I used each daily treatment, I could see different results to my skin each week.

My skin is very sensitive, so the first week was a bit hard on my skin, so I just used half a treatment each day. But, by the second week, my skin seemed smoother and was happy to get to the hydration week! By my last week of treatment, my skin tone was more even and my fine lines and wrinkles were definitely less noticeable! This is really a great system!

What I think: I have only been using this for a few days, but I noticed a difference in my skin after the first use. Take Care of Your Skin This Winter With Skincare By Karin Herzog, Jan Marini, Phyto-C, Wilma Schumann and Korres

How is your skin doing this winter? I guess it depends on where you live. If you are in the Northeast it has been cold and snowy, but in Kansas City it changes everyday. One day it’s 20 degrees and then next, 70!

What I think: This beautiful cream is super-moisturizing, but not heavy at all! I really like using this as a day cream before SPF. It has a little tint to it and helps with my redness. Since it isn’t heavy, it works well under makeup.

What I think: Both of these products help moisturize skin without being heavy or greasy. I like to use them together at night (after exfoliating). I have a hard time sleeping with a heavy cream on my face. In the morning, my skin looks fresh and glowing.

Korres Greek Yoghurt Sleeping Facial ($45 USD) — This ultra hydrating facial-in-a-jar contains a Greek Yoghurt concentrate with two and a half times the protein content of regular yogurt, and works overnight to provide skin with intense, long-term moisturization and nourishment to create a smooth, even complexion. You will wake up to noticeable improvements in skin texture and more moisturized, refreshed skin.

What I think: I use this cream when my skin is dry and I need more hydration. It works so well overnight! I wake up with soft, fully hydrated skin. This is perfect for those who need hydration at night!

My Beauty Faves Week of February 2-8, 2015

It was such a beautiful weekend in Kansas City! The temperature was in the 60’s and 70’s! My husband said that the weather is giving us a false sense of Spring, that it will be cold again soon. He is probably right…but it is still nice!

This weekend I am loving a skin treatment that instantly makes me look younger, amazing hair care and color, gel-infused slippers and a portable humidifier. Even though it seems like Spring, it is still Winter and I have to keep taking care of my skin and hair!

Roloxin Lift ($110 for ten sachets and $270 for 30) — Roloxin Lift is formulated to quickly repair, reduce and prevent the signs of premature aging and environmental damage in just minutes! What I think: This is an interesting product. You apply it and it turns white and tight on the skin. Then you rinse it off after about 7 minutes. Once it is rinsed off, it tightens skin and holds for about 24 hours. I did notice my pores were smaller and my wrinkles less noticeable. But, it irritated my sensitive skin and looked like a sunburn when I rinsed it off. the redness faded after a while. I think that if you have sensitive skin, this may not be for you. But if your skin is not sensitive, try it! It works very well.

The shampoo and conditioner left my hair soft and even a bit thicker. And the hair color was easy to use, plus left my hair very shiny! It contains pearl essence for the extra shine.

My Beauty Faves Week of January 26 – February 1, 2015

I can’t believe it’s almost February! We’ve had some sunny and warm days last week in Kansas City, but it’s getting colder again and I’m reminded that it’s still winter!

So, this week I am still loving skin care and hair care products. My skin and hair both need hydration, and my flyaway hair definitely needs taming! But if you love makeup, don’t worry, I will be featuring my picks for Valentine’s Day soon!

What I think: I love the eye cream part of this duo. It’s very hydrating and soothing. The concealer is a bit odd. It isn’t creamy and doesn’t blend well. The consistency is like a putty. I have found that the best way to use it is to mix it on the back of my hand with the cream. Then I apply it as a highlighter under my eyes. Or, dip a concealer brush in the cream then in the concealer, apply and blend, blend, blend! Although it doesn’t work for me as a traditional concealer, I like the look that it gives me. It brightens my eye area.

What I think: exfoliation is so important in keeping skin young and healthy looking. My skin is fairly sensitive, but this doesn’t irritate at all. L’Oreal Advanced Hairstyle Blow Dry It Thermal Smoother Cream ($4.99 USD) — Hair is instantly tamed and protected to stand strong against heat styling and humidity. Instantly smooths and protects. De-frizzes with fibralock technology. Preps hair for stying with heat tools.

What I think: I use this before I blow dry, or air dry my hair. It makes my hair soft and smooth, plus I like how it protects from heating tools. My hair can use all of the help it can get!

Rimmel Wonderfull Waterproof Mascara ($8.99 USD) — clump-free volume & definition. Waterproof formula with Argan Oil. Full, perfectly smooth, clump-free lashes. Ultra-Flex brush hugs lashes defining them from root to tip.

What I think: This mascara not only adds tons of volume, it is also conditions lashes with Argan Oil. Plus, the new waterproof formula is perfect for year round flawless lashes!

Collaboration Box #4 Memebox X CutiePieMarzia 2 Review

Have you heard of Memebox? It is company that sells a varieties of boxes with a selection of Korean beauty products. It isn’t a subscription, as you can purchase just one box at a time as they are released.

Last week, Memebox had a box party and restocked older boxes, plus some new ones to sell. Towards the end of last year, they didn’t have as many boxes available, but now they are back! I have also purchased three new boxes that I should be receiving in the next couple of weeks, including a Valentine’s themed box. They have two different Valentine’s boxes available now at http://www.memebox.com.

This box is the second collaboration with YouTube star CutiePieMarzia. And it is still on sale for $19 (original price $23) plus $6.99 for upgraded express shipping.

There was a pamphlet from Marzia inside detailing the items included. It contains photos, a description of each product and how to use them.

The contents! I knew what was inside of it, since it came out last year, but I was still excited to receive it!

This is the reason I purchased the box. I have heard a lot about Tonymoly products. They have such cute packaging. I wanted to try this cream because it has a gel consistency and is reported to be moisturizing and not greasy. Even though my skin has been sensitive lately, it doesn’t irritate and sinks right in, but it is a little sticky at first. It smells fantastic! ($12 USD)

Jeju Hallabong Energy Mild All-in-One Serum

This organic serum is made from the Hallabong orange. It has lots of vitamin C in it. This serum also smells wonderful and is a bit sticky. It does absorb well and gives skin a glow. ($20 USD)

Cheek Room Lip Balm Clover 05 Cherry Clover

Shara Shara Triple Shine Color Shadow in 04 White Pink

And talking about cute, this eye shadow comes in four variations. I received the pink, but there is gold, purple and blue palettes. The shadow is fairly well pigmented, maybe a little sheer, but will be fun to wear in the Spring. ($15 USD)

Revecen Face Control Foundation #002 Violet

This is an interesting product. It is a hard cream and does apply with a soft purple tinge. I will try it on a day that I don’t have to work and will need to apply foundation afterwords, because I think it’s more of a color-correcting primer than a foundation. ($22 USD)

Shara Shara Petit Friend Matte Lip Crayon in Neon Orange

Since my photo of this is blurry, it is hard to see how bright this lip crayon is. When applied it is a bright medium orange and it is very creamy and matte. It is fairly long-wearing, too. It is not my shade, but I really like the formula. ($11 USD).

I really like this Memebox and I think it is a great value for its price: it’s a $92 value. I am looking forward to receiving future boxes from Memebox.

What I think: I have been using the Face cream in the morning before my sunscreen. I love the texture, it is creamy without being greasy. It also gives my face a glow. I have only been using it for a short time, but I hope it helps with sagging skin (that’s my main anti-aging issue at the moment.) The mask is a cool idea. It feels nice when applied and my skin is super soft the next morning.

To use, apply Argan Cleansing Oil evenly over dry face. Then, wet the face and massage into a rich milk. Rinse thoroughly. Massage argan oil into skin, hair, and/or nails to help moisturize face, treat split ends, and/or condition cuticles. Shake Argan Matchmaker Foundation Serum well and then use the foundation brush to apply to the face. Sweep Argan Color Stick over the apples of the cheeks and blend toward the temples. Apply to lips for a soft flush of hydrating color.

What I think: This set of natural skin goodies really can make you glow! The argan oil is good for your whole body, the cleanser gets all of the makeup off and the beautiful color skin makes cheeks and lips naturally rosy.

But, the start products for me is the Matchmaker Serum Foundation and the foundation brush. I have been wanting to try the foundation since it was released. The foundation I have been using is a little dark for my skintone, so I had to mix it with lighter concealer. Josie’s serum foundation is a perfect match and easily covers discoloration and redness. I squirt a little on the back of my hand and dip the brush in it and paint it on my face. I like to start under my eyes and move to my cheeks, forehead, chin and nose and blend, blend, blend! It starts out white and turns into my natural ivory shade. You can order the set in Fair/Light, Light/Medium (my shade) and Medium/Dark. I was afraid that Light/Medium would be a little too dark, but it adjusted perfectly. This may be my holy grail foundation!
