White Sands Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner

As we become more eco-conscious, more companies are releasing natural, organic and even vegan products. Not only are these types of products great for the environment, they are healthy and nourishing for our bodies!

White Sands has recently created 100% vegan products, their Hydrating Shampoo ($12.00 7.6 oz) and Conditioner ($15.00 7.6 oz). These products are all natural, sulfate, silicone, and cruelty free. Both products contain wheat and silk amino acids to moisturize dry and damaged hair, while providing hair color protection.

The claim is, “by correcting the hair’s internal moisture balance, White Sands Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner create a guard against humidity, creating the foundation for the perfect frizz free style. To further the pairs’ amazing results, Wheat Amino Acids promote moisture when applying hot tools, while Silk Amino Acids’ cationic and anionic properties create a positive charge to damaged hair fibers in order to polish tresses for high shine.”

I like this hair care duo. The scent is sultry with a hint of musk– but its not too strong, which is good. It will be very nice for the fall and winter. The conditioner is my favorite because it is very rich. My hair needs a thick conditioner because it gets very dry and frizzy. And although it is a thick moisturizer, the conditioner doesn’t weigh my hair down. I have found my hair is less frizzy after use.

Neil George Hair Care

The Neil George salon in Beverly Hills was founded in April 2005  by hairstylists Amanda George and Neil Weisberg. Their line of hair care products were created to keep hair healthy and shiny, by using natural ingredients.

I was lucky to try three of these great products:

Intense Illuminating Shampoo ($22.00) — This shampoo is designed to hydrate dry, dehydrated and chemically treated hair. It contains Indian Gooseberry, a plant extract that has an antioxidant capacity higher than most fruits, which is touted to strengthen and repair the hair shaft from root to ends. The shampoo (and conditioner) are paraben free. I really enjoy the grapefruit sage scent and the fact that the shampoo is very moisturizing and does not strip my hair.

Intense Illuminating Conditioner ($24.00) — This conditioner claims to restore the brilliance to color treated and under-nourished hair. Indian Gooseberry helps to strengthen and repair the hair shaft and deeply moisturize the hair leaving it smooth, luxurious, and tangle free.  I comb the conditioner through my hair and leave it in for a few minutes. The result is silky, shiny hair.

Indian G0oseberry Treatment Oil ($42.00) This treatment is touted to calm frizz and ease styling, leaving hair smooth and healthy. I comb this through damp hair and style as usual. I love the shine this gives and how healthy my hair looks after using all three of the products. I’m pretty much sold on the Indian Gooseberry as a hair care ingredient. This system is one of the best I’ve tried all summer that really keeps the frizzies at bay!

Nick Chavez Beverly Hills

Hairstylist Nick Chavez is known for creating products to make hair it’s most glamorous.  His products are a blend of herbal and organic traditions with modern technology. I tried the following products:

Volumizing Shampoo 8 fl oz ($18.00) — touts to give body, lift and volume to thinning hair. It contains Vitamins A and E to condition the outside hair shaft and Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), which penetrates inside to increase hair diameter. These products all smell wonderful. The shampoo cleans without stripping the hair and hasn’t faded my color.

Volumizing Conditioner 8 fl oz ($20.00) — claims to give shimmering bounce and voluminous texture without over-conditioning or disturbing the hair’s natural moisture balance. This is very moisturizing. After using both the shampoo and conditioner, I noticed that my hair did have a lot of bounce.

Angel Wings Ultra Light Styling Paste ($24.00 4 oz) — this is a light paste to shape, define & texturize. What I found using this product is that it didn’t leave my hair crunchy and it imparted a nice shine. My hair was also less shimmery than usual. One thing I didn’t care for was that using this product deflated some of my volume from the shampoo and conditioner.

All in all, I had a very positive experience with the Nick Chavez products. Check out his website at http://www.nickchavezbeverlyhills.com to learn more about these products.

Paul Brown Hawaii Hair Products

Paul Brown Hawaii was created by master hairstylist Paul Brown. He uses natural ingredients, such as plant extracts, that he has discovered in his beloved Hawaii.

I really like these products. I think that the scent is fantastic and reminds me of my honeymoon in Hawaii.  I tried the following products:

The Hapuna Cleanse and Conditioning system — This lightly fragrant  shampoo and conditioner contain extracts from sea flowers and plants to produce beautiful, healthy hair with no buildup. The shampoo is light, but really cleans. The conditioner is also light, and I need more moisture from my conditioner. I have to either use a lot or use another conditioner afterwards to hydrate my dry hair.

I really recommend Paul Brown Hawaii’s styling products. Both the Stay Straight Smoothing Balm and the  Stay Straight Molding Creme  help to keep my hair frizz free. I first apply the Creme, then dry my hair to just damp and add the balm. Both contain a blend of natural Hawaiian Protein Flora Complex (HPFC) and plant emollients, which penetrate hair shaft to restore hair to a healthier, frizz-free condition.

After my hair is completely dry, I apply the Shine Amplifier to boost my shine. It also contains sunscreen, which is a great touch for healthy hair.

I finish the look with the Dry Mist. This hair spray gives hair volume and hold without making hair stiff or sticky. You can even brush your hair after you apply it.

Living Proof No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner

Living Proof Shampoo and Conditioner
Living Proof Shampoo and Conditioner

Living in Kansas City can be quite the beauty challenge for my hair. The air is very dry in the winter so my hair becomes flyaway. The worst time of the year for my hair, though, is the summer. The humidity and heat turn my hair into a fuzzball. So frizz-free haircare is a must!

Living Proof’s No Frizz was created by a team of scientists by applying advanced technology to solve the problem of frizzy hair. They are launching  another great breakthrough: No Frizz Shampoo, No Frizz Conditioner and No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner, a complete hair care collection that brings the frizz-fighting power of PolyfluoroEster to the most advanced cleansing and conditioning formulas.

Here are the new products and their descriptions:

No Frizz Shampoo ($24.00 8oz)was developed with PolyfluoroEster and SLMI, a gentle, sulfate-free surfactant that actually gives a luscious lather but removes any trace of dirt or oil without stripping the hair.

No Frizz Conditioner ($24.00 8oz) also contains PolyfluoroEster yet is completely devoid of the heavy oils, silicones and butters found in many frizz-fighting conditioners so it doesn’t weigh hair down.

No Frizz Leave-In Conditioner ($24.00 8oz) is an ideal option for drier hair, incorporating PolyfluoroEster with lightweight glycerin as the key moisturizing component instead of heavy oils, a first for a leave-in frizz-fighting product. No Frizz Leave-In conditioner is one of the only oil-free, silicone-free leave-in conditioners available on the market.

For my hair, I like to use all three of the products. I first shampoo, then apply conditioner and leave it in for a few minutes. I then towel-dry my hair and use the leave-in conditioner for extra smoothness. This really helps my hair say soft and manageable and cuts down on the frizzies.

The new No Frizz hair care collection will be available in Sephora, Sephora.com, QVC, QVC.com and www.livingproof.com beginning September 2009.

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal

Soy Renewal
Soy Renewal

Before trying Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Nourishing Styling Treatment ($19.95 4.2 oz), I had never tried a Sexy Hair Product. My friend Angie D.(one of my two favorite Angies) swears by the Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Harder. She says its the best hairspray for keeping her style in place.

So I was excited to try the Soy Renewal. It is contains soy protien to strengthen hair and argan oil to repair. It is touted to increase manageability, control frizz and protect agains environmental stresses.

Argan oil is a cool ingredient. It has an ability to absorb quickly in to wet or dry hair and speeds up drying time. It is cultivated from the Argan Nut, found only in Morocco and is prized for it’s natural healing effects.

I really enjoy using this product. It is not greasy at all in my hair. I like to put it on while damp, blow dry my hair, then add more for polish. It does seem to speed up drying time, which is helpful on busy days. The scent smells nice, but is very mild. I recommend this product to keep hair healthy and shiny.

David Babaii for Wildaid

At the core of David Babaii for Wildaid hair products is a partnership between celebrity hairstylist David Babaii and actress Kate Hudson. 10% of the  profits go to global wildlife conservation organization Wildaid to help save endangered animals.

Wonderful? Yes, but even more wonderful is that the natural ingredients are so good for your hair! They are “an exclusive blend of exotic natural and renewable ingredients. Rich Cupuacu butter from the South American Amazon, nutrient rich super volumizing volcanic ash from the Vanuatu islands of the South Pacific, Blue Algae, and Polynesian White Ginger (to name but a few).”

The products are free of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, and animal products. And of course, free from all animal testing.

The best thing of all (for people watching their wallets)? These quality products are affordable — with many of them just $9.95! Here are 3 of my favorites:

Amplifying Shampoo ($9.95 13.5 oz) is touted to add lift and luster to fine, limp hair (like mine). Volcanic ash brings volume, white ginger enhances sine and coconut oil created the rich lather. This is not only safe for color-treated hair, it will help the color last longer.

Amplifying Conditioner ($9.95 13.5 oz) — this product also contains volcanic ash, white ginger and also has blue algae to strengthen, smooth and to create shine.

Hair Polish ($9.95 1.7 oz) contains nettle, orchid, oat, cucumber and white ginger to keep hair stronger and healthier. Wheat and Rice proteins offer natural damage control. This is a light cream that you use on damp hair before styling.

Using these three products together, my hair becomes a totally different entity. It has tons of body and hold. I used it this morning and now at bedtime I still have volume, bounce and shine. And it feels so soft and natural. These are some of the best hair products I have tried lately!

H2pro Silk
H2pro Silk
Is your hair getting frazzled by this summer’s heat and humidity? I know mine is!

H2pro Silk 1-Minute Thermal Hair Treatment ($13.00) is touted to bring a 1-minute hair treatment to revitalize your hair and protect it from heat as you style. It is infused with jojoba hydrolyzing crystals to hydrate as well as protect hair from heat.

To use this product, apply a little bit on towel dried hair, mostly through the ends. Then use a comb to distribute the product evenly. Leave in for 1 minute and style as usual.

This cream smells great and seems to give my hair body and manageability. I don’t really feel the hydration, and I still have to use a little shine serum afterwards. What I do notice is a difference in the volume and bounciness of my hair.

Hair Rules Nourishment Leave In Conditioner

Hair Rules Nourishment Leave In
Hair Rules Nourishment Leave In Conditioner

Hair Rules creates hair products for different hair textures. The main 3 categories that they cater to are kinky, curly and wavy hair. My hair is naturally wavy and gets very frizzy in the summer.

That’s why Hair Rules Nourishment Leave In Conditioner ($20.00 8oz) is a great product for me. Actually it’s great for all hair types that need a little frizz control in the summer.  Humidity causes frizz is because moisture in the air is attracted to dry hair which soaks it up like a sponge and then swells.  If your hair is hydrated, the moisture in the air doesn’t bother it as much.

Nourishment contains extracts of honey, ginger root, lemon and gardenia and is lightweight for the springiest curls and softest waves. It also smells fantastic.

It can be used in place of regular conditioner or as an extra bit of moisture. That’s how I use it. Apply a dollop to wet or damp hair.
