BoxyCharm Subscription Box Review – October 2017

I recently received my October Boxycharm! I have been subscribing for a few months now and have generally enjoyed it.

Boxycharm is just $21 a month for 5-6 beauty items, most of them full-sized.

The products I received this month are:

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion – $58 USD

Becca Liquid Highlighter Prosecco Pop –  $41 USD

dls Eyeshadow Crayon — $14 USD

Tarte Tarteist™ Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Pillowtalk – $20 USD

Jonteblu Lip Liner Pencil in Brown Sugar – $5 USD

There were variations.  I could have received the Becca highlighter in a pressed powder (which I wanted) or a nail accessory kit instead of the eye pencil. And the Tarte and Jonteblu products came in different shades.

I haven’t tried this before, but it gets great reviews from bloggers!  It claims to reduce the look of enlarged pores and mattifies shine. I will give it a try and probably will review it in the future.

I really wanted the pressed powder version of this!  I don’t use liquid highlighter.  I wasn’t even going to try it, but I swatched it on my hand (see it at the end of the post).  It’s very pretty!  It’s a shimmery gold and it’s not too dark.  So I might try it on my face and see if I like it.  I’ve read tips online to use it under eyes to brighten that area, but I think it’s too dark for my light skin to do that.  Still, I’ll have to play with it!

This is a pretty pinky bronze color!  It can be used as an eye primer or base.  It glides easily on, but doesn’t set, if that’s the type of eye product you like.  I don’t mind that it can transfer, because I layer powder shadow on top and it sets nicely.

The shade Pillowtalk is the lightest Tartiest lip color.  It is described as a white nude, and I agree.  It’s very pale on.  Since I am fair, it doesn’t wash me out too badly, but it looks like I am wearing a shade darker than my concealer on my lips! I tried the lip liner under it, but the Tarte product covers so well, I couldn’t even see the darker shade under it!  Oh well, I’ll see if one of my daughters want it.

What’s funny is that although the Tarte matte lippie didn’t work for my, this lip pencil makes a nice matte lip for me!  I line my lips, then color them in (I always do this with lip pencil, even if I’m going to wear another product over it).  The pretty Spice color gave me an amazing nude lip, not washed out at all!  The pencil is a little hard, but that does make it easy to shape my lips.  And it lasted a while on!

Swatches!  Left to right, the lip pencil, Tarte lippie, eye crayon and Becca highlighter.

Even though I was a little disappointed in this box when I received it, I am going to give most of the products a go!  I will try the dermabrasion and the highlighter, I’ll use the eye and lip pencil and only plan on giving away the lip color.  Not bad!

Next month already has some great spoilers including the CoverFX illuminating setting sprayWinky Luxe Kitten Palette and BoxyCharm x Luxie Quad Eye Travel Set Brushes!  I hope there are no variations on these products because I am excited for all of them!

Julep Maven October 2017 Subscription Box Review

My Julep Maven box recently came!  This is the October subscription box. The cost is $24.99 a month ($19.99 a month with a 3-month subscription).

I have been a subscriber for over 4 years.  And I love it!  You don’t have to take a box each month, you can skip if you want to.  Which is so nice if I’m short a month or if I’m not feeling any of the items.

I also love that you can customize your box.  When I first started subscribing, I could choose from curated boxes, but now, I get to curate my own!  I usually choose polish and beauty items, but for this month I went for all polish and cute nail stickers.  I always love their polish choices for October:

The colors I chose are Johnny, True Black Crème, Christi, Enchanted Teal Shimmer and Ariel, Planetary Turquoise Glitter.  They are all super fall-ish and Halloween-y to me!

Plus, these fun metallic nail stickers!

Have you signed up for Julep yet?  If you use the code POLISHGIFT when you subscribe, you will get a free polish set when you join Julep Beauty Box. Includes twelve full-size nail polish. A $168 value.

VineOh! Wine Subscription Box Review: Oh! For Me! Fall Box

I received my very first Vine Oh! subscription box!  I was so excited to try this.  It consists of two bottles of wine and fun and pampering products.

Vine Oh! is $59.99 for a $120+ Value.  It is delivered 4x per year and includes free shipping.  Right now you can get $20 off your first box (like I did) with the code WineForMe.

It comes in one big box, but the surprises are in a smaller box on the top and the wine is packaged well on the bottom.

The box with the goodies!

Here’s what’s included, plus two bottles of wine!  Here’s the wine I got:

2016 New Crush California Pinot Grigio ($18.99 USD) — New Crush Pinot Grigio is an aromatic and complex wine that presents aromas of white peaches and white flowers, sea spray and oyster shell. The fresh and light flavors rang from casaba melon to citrus zest with a hint of Creme Fraiche in the finish. Perfect wine for all white wine enthusiasts.
2014 Speechless Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon  ($24.99 USD) Speechless Cabernet Sauvignon is a fantastic cabernet from the Lodi region in California. With aromas of toasted oak, jam, and tea leaves, this wine has rich dark fruit flavors with firm tannins. Great wine to enjoy on a quiet night; a night when being speechless is not only a nice treat, but a well-earned reward.
I have not tried the Pinot Grigio yet, but I can say that the Cabernet Sauvignon is very tasty!  It does have a deep, fruity flavor.  I don’t know much about wines, but reds are my favorite and I really enjoyed this one!
Now on to the box of goodies.  This was a big reason I got the box, because it included both wine and other treats:

Wei Mung Bean Sprout Stress-Relieving Smoothing Mask – $12 USD

Wei Millet Sprout Instant Smoothing Nourishing Mask – $12 USD

I have tried the Millet Sprout mask already and loved it.  These come with tongs to get the masks out of the serum.  The masks come in a tube.  Once you use the mask, you are left with lots of serum in the tube.  I have been using that on my face, neck and hands and love how smooth my skin looks!  I will try the Mung Bean Sprout mask soon.

Fizz and Bubble Milkshake Bath Bombs – $15 USD (Listed on card as $14)

These 12 bath bombs come packaged in a plastic drink cup with a straw inside and a loofah too!  It’s so cute and the Lavender Fields scent is very nice.  My daughter loves bath bombs, but I’ve already tried them out so she can have the rest if she wants!

This cute little tray is great for jewelry, lip balms etc.  It’s very sweet and will make a nice gift, if I decide not to keep it.
This is a really sturdy canvas bag with a fun saying on it.  I will use this to take packages to the post office.
Metropolis Gourmet Popcorn, 3.5 oz – $6 USD (Listed $5)
Well, these are gone! They were eaten by the second day I had them.  They were so tasty and sweet, but not too much so. This was a really nice treat!

Capabunga –  $5 USD

One of these little toppers comes in every VineOh! box.  They are so cool and handy! You slide them onto the top of the wine bottle and they can even be stored on their side in the fridge or counter without fear of leakage.

What do you think of this fun subscription box?  I think it’s really fun and I’m looking forward to the Winter box!

GlossyBox Review — September 2017

I received  my September GlossyBox in the mail.  This is my last box in my 3 for $30 deal.  I did cancel with them.  They are normally $21 per month .

Now through September 30th, use coupon code FALL15 to get your first GlossyBox for only $15! And you’ll get your next two boxes for $15 each, too!

GlossyBox ships to the US and Canada.

These are the items I recieved:

Lancôme Paris Advanced Génifique Sensitive Antioxidant Serum                  Lancôme Paris Visionnaire Advanced Multi-Correcting Cream SPF20                 Manna Kadar GLO                                                                                                         Morgan Taylor Nail Polish                                                                                      Pureology Clean Volume Shampoo                                                                        Pureology Clean Volume Conditioner                                                                    Freeman Beauty Infusion Charcoal & Probiotics Cleansing Clay Mask

The Manna Kadar Glo, the Morgan Taylor polish and the Freeman mask were all full sized.  The rest were samples.  On with the review!

These were products I hadn’t tried before.  For the serum sample, you push the blue product and it flows into the clear, and you shake it up and open.  I only needed a little, so this sample will last a while!  It it very watery and absorbed right away.  I haven’t seen a difference in my skin yet, but I will keep using it.

The sunscreen is really nice, it has a soft scent, and is creamy, not heavy or greasy.

This is a full sized illuminator, the Manna Kadar Glow.  I haven’t tried it yet, because I think I might give it away for Christmas.  I don’t use cream highlighters.  It is supposed to give a youthful glow and dewy finish, and you can mix it with foundation or moisturizer.  Actually, it might be nice mixed with a primer.  Hmm. I might try it after all!

The shade of Morgan Taylor polish I received is Magician’s Assistant.  Its a pinky/greige/lavender cream.  This is so pretty!  I’ll definitely be wearing this.  I love light colors and nudes.

Pureology is a great brand.  It uses natural ingredients effectively.  The shampoo is supposed to gently cleanses fine, colour-treated hair without stripping colour. Provides light, airy fullness with lifted root that lasts all day.

I won’t use these now.  I will keep them for a trip or to give away to someone who needs travel sizes.

This mask is full sized, and a drugstore product.  I haven’t tried it yet, but it smells nice.  I don’t use a lot of masks, I’m more of a scrub girl, so this might go in my giveaway pile.

This box was okay, better than the last two I received.  I will use the nail polish and the Lancome products.  The rest I’ll probably give away.
