30 Rock star, Jane Krakowski, has teamed up with Jergens and The Skin Cancer Foundation to help consumers get In the Glow and get their glow the healthy way instead of tanning this summer. To get the word out, Jane created a video that includes her tips on how to get a healthy glow as well as admitting to some of her poor sun choices in the past. Now until the end of summer, you can log onto www.youtube.com/jergens to view the video and share it with you friends. Every time the video is viewed Jergens will donate $1 to The Skin Cancer Foundation. I viewed it, now it’s your turn!
You may be asking, does Jergen Natural Glow give you a natural looking tan? It does! I have been using the Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer ($8.99 USD) for the body and the Healthy Complexion Daily Facial Moisturizer ($8.99 USD) for a couple of weeks. I like how the tan grows over days, so you don’t look white one day, dark the next. I have noticed that it doesn’t stain my hands and that you get a mild tan smell, but not as strong as other sunless tanning. It’s just like using your body and face moisturizer, but it does take a few minutes to dry.
These great moisturizers have a powerful blend of antioxidants and Vitamin E and are developed with broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 20 protection. The dermatologist-tested, oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer helps prevent premature aging and protects against future damage.
St. Tropez should be a familiar name as it is one of the original tanning companies. Their products now have a modern look and formulas to go with it, making theirs some of the best tanning products on the market today.
Self Tan Bronzing Mousse -($30.00 4 oz, $40.00 8 oz) — So far, this is the best self tanner I have tried. The mousse is very lightweight and easy to apply. It is tinted bronze so you can tell where you have put it and where you may need some more. As long as you rub it in all over, you will get an even, streak free tan. The only minus is that although it is advertised that their “innovative Aromaguard™ fragrance technology eliminates the tell-tale self tan aroma by a minimum of 70% and instead gives a beautiful subtle, yet refreshing fragrance”, when the mousse starts tanning the body a few hours after application, the tanning scent is very strong. Still, the natural color you get is worth it.
Here are some tips for application from the website:
Exfoliate with St. Tropez Body Polish before moisturizing dry areas thoroughly with St. Tropez Body Moisturizer (elbows, knees, ankles and feet). Help protect light eyebrows and hairline with a little extra moisturizer. Then, pump the mousse into your palm and sweep it from top to toe making sure you’re well covered as it’s only missed areas that can look patchy. Once you’ve got even coverage wait for 60 seconds before getting dressed. Then try not to get wet, or sweat, for at least four hours. Finally, shower off to reveal a perfectly golden, natural looking tan.
Another fun St. Tropez product is the New Everyday Perfect Legs ($45.00 USD 5 oz) — This is two products in one, a gradual self tan and a bronzer that is made especially for legs. It is infused with soothing aloe and marine extract, so you will have a gorgeous natural-looking tan that lasts. Plus your legs will be super soft. The website suggests, “to apply, smooth on the gradual tan lotion (using the white pump), sweeping it from toes to upper thighs in light, even strokes. Make sure you’re well covered as it’s only missed bits that’ll look uneven. Next, for immediate color, coverage and a flawless finish whilst your tan develops, apply the instant tan (using the black pump) sweeping from toes to upper thighs.” Your legs will look instantly polished for evening outs, special events or everyday looks.
I also want to recommend the Self Tan Remover ($18.00 USD 11 oz) — wash your hands with this scrub after application, and you will not get dark or streaky palms.
St. Tropez also has wonderful a body polisher, after tan lotions, and other types of self tanning products. Visit the website at www.st-tropez.com for more information.
Do you love being tan in the summer, but with the need to wear sunscreen, do not want to brave tanning in the sun? Do you love self-tanners but find them a little messy? Same here!
Comodynes has created not only a sunless tanning towelettes, they also have exfoliating towelettes to prepare your skin for tanning and after tanning towelettes to hydrate the skin. Their line also include skincare items and a great variety of makeup remover wipes. Just wipe and go with these products, no mess here!
To gain an even, golden tan with Comodynes, I like to start with the Easy Peeling Towelettes ($8 pack 12.99 USD). The website touts they, “eliminate dead cells, deeply clean pores and leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and renewed. Purify your skin and boost the action of your treatment cream and self-tanning products.” I use one all over my body before tanning and it dries really quickly, leaving me ready for the tanning towelettes.
I really like the individually wrapped Self Tanning Towlettes (8 pack $13.99 USD). The benefits stated on their website include, photoprotection, moisturizing, emollient and they contain 100% natural viscose. To use, I rub this in circles all over my body, making sure I cover all of the surface of my skin to prevent streaking. Don’t forget to wash hands after tanning!
The website at www.comodynes.net is a great place to learn more about these innovative products. You can purchase them online or find a store nearest you.
Looking for a different way to tan? Solerra Sunless Tanning Mitt ($24.95 for 5 ) is a very innovative product. A glove with four layers contains the sunless tanning solution so the hands will not get stained during application. This means that you don’t automatically have to wash them after you apply the product. And because it dries fairly quickly, this is a great on-the-go self tanner.
Solerra Sunless Tanning Mitt contains Invisicare — which allows an even all-over aabsorption of the tan without the use of silicones, alcohol, gels, wasxes or other skin damaging delivery systems.
I really like that one applications gives a light, golden tan without streaking. If you wish to go darker, you can use another mitt. Layering the color allows for more even coverage.
Solerra also has other great products like the Pre-Tan Body-Buff exfoliating mitt ($11.97 for 3 ). Scrub this on dry, clean skin right before your tan. It will exfoliate and prepare the skin for tanning and it dries in minutes — no need to rinse off. They also have self-tanning cream, sunscreen and after-tanning lotion.
Visit the website at www.solera.com to purchase these products or learn more about them.
Kate’s Somerville’s luxury skincare line carries wonderful products to get you through the summer. Both the serum sunscreen and the tanning towelettes reviewed below are made with the same care and quality of Kate’s other skincare items.
Protect SPF 55 Serum Sunscreen ($45.00 2 oz) — “This mild, antioxidant-rich sunscreen is free of oils, parabens and alcohol. This formula was made with innovative technology which gives high-level protection against skin-burning UVB radiation and aging UVA rays. This serum is mild, quick-drying and non-whitening. AM Apply daily to face, neck, and chest. Apply liberally 20 minutes before sun exposure and as needed. Reapply after swimming or exposure to water.”
When you first apply this sunscreen it is white, but when you rub it in the white disappears completely, unlike other high SPF sunscreens. It is really creamy, so you can skip your moisturizer if you wish, especially if you have oily or combination skin.
Each Somer360°™ Tanning Towelette ($48.00 for 8) is” concentrated with a paraben-free self-tanning formula to give you a quick and even application with no streaking. Somer360°™ Unfold towelette and apply to dry, clean skin in a circular motion over your body. Wash hands immediately. Towelettes will produce a uniform, natural-looking glow within 2 to 4 hours. For a deeper tan and to maintain your glow, reapply as needed.”
Self tanning is always tricky, especially if you are my 13 year old daughter and you think you can throw your clothes on after tanning and act all crazy! She tried a tanning towelette and it did streak on her.
But not on me. I made sure I exfoliated first, then put on my swimsuit and applied a towelette all over. I let myself dry for a couple of hours before I put my clothes on. It does take a while to dry, but the color is a very lovely light brown. If you do it right, it is worth the wait!
